Creating a sustainable line without compromising product, performance, or price through local production and local materials is not a simple task but the team at Odlo is ready to accept this challenge. I had the opportunity to chat with Richard Clevett who is the Performance Category Manager for Odlo's Running and Cycling lines to discuss the new line of running apparel, how his team approaches layering, and the 'geeky details' that make a product special.
Dan Pattison is the category manager for outdoor and SUW lines which specialize in athlete performance through micro layering and fabric construction. In this episode of the Gear.com show, we discussed the transcendence of sustainability in consumer goods, how every level of the Odlo organization champions for this in their respective realms, and the excitement of mixing materials and discovering a new product.
I had the chance to catch up with Devon Logan ahead of her final competitions of the season. Steven Sashen was a sprinter during his earlier years, and discovered the joys of barefoot and minimalist running as he read about the native people of Tarahumara from the region of Chihuahua, Mexico. It was inspiring, and he began building sandals for minimalist runners who began adopting the running practices of the Tarahumara. Today, Xero Shoes is winning awards and fans from across the spectrum of outdoor enthusiasts, not just runners. In today's podcast, Brig Graff from Gear.com interviews Steven about the founding of Xero Shoes and his views on everything from zero-drop shoes to overall foot health. For any runner, this is a must-listen episode.
Coalatree has emerged as a very hot, trending, 90s-style clothing and gear company that is crowd-funded and eco-minded. J.M. Fabrizi is Head of Brand at Coalatree, and has led much of their crowd-funding effort, which has brought in more than $2M in backing across a number of campaigns: from their fabulously-popular Trailhead stretchy climbing pants, to their Evolution Hoodie which is made from recycled coffee beans. In this episode, our own Brig Graff interviews J.M. to get insights into how the Coalatree brand has carved itself a coveted brand positioning in the market, and how they have turned crowd-funding backers into long-term fans of the Coalatree brand.
