That’s the situation six Los Angeles teenagers find themselves in when they stumble upon a terrible secret and realize that their parents have been lying to them for their entire lives. • The Great Christmas Kickoff
Originally Aired: 12/01/17 – Our annual Christmas show featuring Alex James and a look at Christmas movies, comics and TV shows
That’s right friends, the season is upon us! It’s time for the Geek Hard Christmas Special!
We start off with the return of our favourite holiday punching bag – Alex James, in studio for the whole show. He performs the Christmas song Christmas Bells but not as well as Kyle Stevens of Kirby Krackle where he stole the idea from. Like we said he’s our favourite holiday punching bag!
Our annual tradition of the Great Christmas Movie Swap! continues. Where we each give the other a Christmas movie the other hasn’t watched for the first time and then we review it. Mr. Green reviews Christmas in Connecticut (chosen by Andrew) released by Warner Bros. Studios starring Barbara Stanwyck, Dennis Morgan and Sydney Greenstreet. While recovering in a hospital, war hero Jefferson Jones (Dennis Morgan) grows familiar with the “Diary of a Housewife” column written by Elizabeth Lane (Barbara Stanwyck). Jeff’s nurse arranges with Elizabeth’s publisher, Alexander Yardley (Sydney Greenstreet), for Jeff to spend the holiday at Elizabeth’s bucolic Connecticut farm with her husband and child. But the column is a sham, so Yardley hastens to arrange a publicity ploy by setting up single, nondomestic Elizabeth on a country farm. While Andrew reviews Office Christmas Party (chosen by Mr. Green) released by Paramount Pictures starring Jason Bateman, Olivia Munn and T.J. Miller. When the CEO (Jennifer Aniston) tries to close her hard-partying brother’s (T.J. Miller) branch, he and his chief technical officer (Jason Bateman) must rally their co-workers and host an epic office Christmas party in an effort to impress a potential client and close a sale that will save their jobs.
We of course continue the tradition of forcing Mr. Green to read Christmas themed comics. This year Andrew has chosen Power Man and Iron Fist: Sweet Christmas Annual (2016) #1 written by David F. Walker and art by Scott Hepburn and Harley Quinn #10 (reprinted in A Very DC Universe Rebirth Christmas) written by Jimmy Palmiotti & Amanda Conner and art by Moritat, Joseph Michael Linser, Bret Blevins! While Mr. Green likes comics he is not a fan of Christmas themed comics and Andrew continues his campaign to make Green like them.
Of course no Christmas show would be complete without our annual checking out of Christmas specials and hitting some television specials from the past. Bob’s Burgers – Bob Rest Ye Merry Gentle-Mannequins, Grimm – The Grimm Who Stole Christmas and Doctor Who – A Christmas Carol Christmas episodes.
Of course no Geekmas would be complete without Alex James taking part in another of Geek Hard’s time honoured traditions: Alex James Christmas Trivia. For the past 6 years running, we have subjected Alex to an embarrassing trivia quiz that shows off how much of a humbug this guy really is. If you’ve never heard the quiz before, you’re in for a treat. For those that have, the good times continue.
The Geek Hard Christmas Stocking winner is announced.

We talk with actor Lora Burke. Lora is the star of Poor Agnes, a new film that dissects the psyche of a female serial killer. The guys got to see it last month at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival. The film’s been “killing it” on the festival circuit. Lora has described her character as kind of an “Evil Reese Whitherspoon”. Lora tells us all about the film (currently playing in Toronto) and hints at other upcoming projects. If you want to know more about Poor Agnes, check our their website.
Our review of Justice League starring Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa. Synopsis: Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists newfound ally Diana Prince to face an even greater threat. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to recruit a team to stand against this newly awakened enemy. Despite the formation of an unprecedented league of heroes — Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash — it may be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
We also talk with comic creators Andrea Fort and Michael Christopher Heron. Their indie comic, Songs for the Dead, has recently been picked up by Vault Comics, with a re-release of issue one coming to comic shops this January. Andrea and Michael will be on to tell you why you should order this series. As our story begins, we meet Bethany, a drifter with a hero complex who finds herself in the town of Llyne in search of someone in need. She finds her mission in the name of Emory Van Craggan, a fifteen-year-old boy who went missing while fetching supplies for his family from an adjacent village. Despite the warning of bandits potentially being involved in his disappearance, Bethany embarks alone on an adventure, hoping to rescue the ill-fated boy.
