A new series and a new format - wary of two middle class middle aged men discussing gender issues and sexuality the morose pairing of Matt and Kehaar have got in reinforcments in the form of 'little witch' Amy from 'Birds of Geek.' With no blows barred they take a good hard look at sexuality and espically gender issues in Super hero fiction - principally comics. On the way there is considerations of such things as - is Black Canary/Green Arrow's relationship the only real one in comics? The Oracle character arc, is The Joker a rapist? Gail Simone's Women in Refrigerators article, Sue Storm's decisions in Civil War, Mary Wollenstonecraft's Vindication of the Rights of Women, Sucker Punch get's a kicking and Matt admits a deep dark desire. There's some strong language and some strong opinions in this episode. (So let's hear yours.) Link's Amy mentions http://www.superdickery.com/ http://www.unheardtaunts.com/wir And you can hear more of her hear http://birdsofgeek.libsyn.com/ Come on the forums with your opinions or email [email protected] or twitter Matt @theGrampus or Kehaar @Clarkythecruel Kehaar's game related musings can be found here http://clarkythecruel.wordpress.com/ and his current RPLG campaign here http://alfiesantics.wordpress.com/ Matt's literary reviews are here http://www.geeksyndicate.co.uk/ under the Tolkien Gestures thread.

The terrible twosome wrap up their miltiary series with a general chin wag about what've learned over the last 6 weeks. Not a lot, but in the course of this they consider does SF ever really tell miltiary stories? Where there is space to tell such stories?. How do Computer games fit in to genre military fiction?. Is there a miltiary fiction genre of it's own? Why is Outcasts so poo? They also consider modern British casualty sensitivity and consider the allogorical power of science fiction and how it's sometimes wasted in miltary SF. Matt is unkind to Footfall while discussing asymetrical warfare and Kehaar is as always the steady voice of wise counsel (not.) Needless to say they bounce around such historical matters as comedy Nazis, Northern Ireland and the British Indian Army. The low tech colony book mentioned is actually Seeds of Earth by Michael Cobleyhttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Seeds-Earth-Humanitys-Michael-Cobley/dp/1841496316/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1297596904&sr=1-1 Details of 'Conspiracy' here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266425/ Feedback is as ever welcome on the forums, or by emailing [email protected]. Same ports of call if you fancy guest hosting in our gender and sexuality series.
