Welcome back to Geeking Out Loud! On today's episode Maria talks about I’d Rather Be Me, a song from the Mean Girls on Broadway soundtrack. The new song features Barrett Wilbert Weed as Janis Sarkisian, the unpopular girl who becomes Cady’s first friend on her first day of school. 

Mean Girls is a movie that came out in 2004 and it became part of pop culture. For example, everyone knows that “On Wednesdays we wear pink.” 

The musical opened April 8, 2018, and it’s written by Tina Fey, the composer is Fey’s husband, Jeff Richmond, and the lyricist is Nell Benjamin. The full soundtrack will be released in digital form on May 18th, and the physical copies will be available on June 15th.

Welcome back to Geeking Out Loud! On today's episode Maria talks about Taylor Swift’s new cover, September. The single was released on Spotify last Friday, April 13. With this unique rendition of the timeless classic, Taylor goes back to her country roots. 

The original September is one of the most popular songs by the band Earth, Wind & Fire. September was written by the band’s singer Maurice White, and Allee Willis in 1978. The song peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the following year.

Welcome back to Geeking Out Loud! On today's episode Maria talks about Shawn Mendes’ new singles, In My Blood and Lost in Japan. In My Blood is definitely in the genre of arena rock, while Lost in Japan sounds more groovy, R&B, and very funky. These two tracks are very different in both feel and lyrical content, In My Blood explores Shawn's personal experience dealing with anxiety, and Lost in Japan shares a very flirty and playful side of him. This is exactly what takes Maria’s excitement to the next level. Shawn Mendes’ new music sounds more mature, but it still feels very Shawn. He keeps the honest and organic qualities that we love in his music very much on his sleeves. 

We still have to wait for Shawn Mendes' new LP, but he was sweet enough to drop In My Blood and Lost in Japan one after the other. Let’s dissect them, shall we?
