Catching up from a great Labor Day weekend, and exciting SOITA upcoming events.

This is a "welcome back" episode to let you know that the podcast isn't dead and that I'm looking forward to sharing stories, tips, and more from educators around the Dayton area. Clark-Shawnee middle school teacher, Matt Warrington, and Springfield Museum of Art’s Curator of Education, Annette Eshelman, discuss their partnership on a unique program at Clark Shawnee Middle School that integrates art and science in their astronomy classes. Students in the program ponder questions like: How does the universe work? How did we get here?  Are we alone? 

Students are using digital resources, robotic telescopes, and creating artwork based on the science that they are learning. The combination of these two subjects results in an exciting, innovative learning experience for all.

This episode spotlights Greenon High School as one of 14 schools nationwide to be selected as a 2019 Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam, a prestigious program that empowers teams of high school students to build a technological invention to solve a problem of their own choosing.

Today we are joined by Mr. Rick Newsock, Supervisor of the CEC Pleasant Street site and Sunset Academy, and Mr. Mike Davis whose son attended the program. Rick shares information and successes about the ESC programs and their direction going forward.  Mr. Davis shares his son's experience with us and describes how it helped him to mature and return to his home school district.
