Who is Sheba?
Sheba Simpson- Amsterdam was born in the South Bronx, but lived the majority of her life in Harlem. She has more than twenty years of experience as an educator in NYC public schools and currently as a Special Education Coordinator at a high school in the South Bronx.
Sheba has dedicated herself and her time to providing her students with opportunities to explore and improve their academic and critical thinking skills so they may reach their highest potential.
Sheba is a 2022 graduate of Leaders of Color, an organization that identifies, trains, and supports community leaders so that they have the tools and knowledge to be civic leaders.
As a recent candidate for NYC Council, Sheba campaigned on a platform for better-funded schools, saving small businesses, affordable housing, and providing resources and services to seniors.
Sheba is the founder and CFO of I’m On Assignment, Inc., a nonprofit organization that serves marginalized communities by providing advocacy, education, and financial literacy. As well as the founder of the Central Harlem Merchants Coalition to Save Small Businesses & Jobs.
Sheba is a board member of JuneteenthNY. A member of International Free & Accepted Modern Masons, Inc. and Order of Eastern Star.
Sheba volunteers her time with Invisible Hands, a non-profit community of volunteers who provide free delivery of food, medicine, and essentials to those in need. As well as Be My Eyes, an app that was created to help the visually impaired connect with people to be their eyes to complete daily activities.
Sheba believes that being of service to others is the rent we pay for being on earth. Sheba lives by her own quote “If you can’t serve, you can’t lead.”
