What are some things you wish you knew about parenthood before beginning your journey?
Here are some things off the top of my head for me.
1. Blowouts are real - poop 💩 is everywhere, and you definitely need to have extra clothes and supplies on hand
2. Make sure you give yourself grace and mercy and extend it to your bundle of joy, too. You are both at a learning curve and trying to figure things out.
3. Ask for help when needed. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness but a strength.
4. Know what to look for when choosing a quality childcare facility. Interview them just like they scope you out.
5. Remember to allocate time for self-care. It's vital for you in order for you to be whole and well for yourself and those that depend on you. Make this a priority.
6. Try not to parent shame others because when you are in the midst of it, things get real super fast. Then, it brings things into perspective.
7. Remember, this is trial and error, no handbook, no rule book, so learn as you go and try not to repeat the same mistakes.
8. Who is your tribe? Know that it truly does take a village to raise a child and having a dependable support system is key.
9. Spend uninterrupted time with your little one. They pay attention to everything, whether you realize it or not. We are their first teachers.
10. When in doubt take some online parenting classes. See what applies and use it and what doesn't put it in the treasure chest for later on.
11. Unsolicited feedback will be given, but it's up to you to use it or not. Be mindful of how you react too.
