New year, new season, and a belated holiday special to kick it all off. Entering this new year, depression and anxiety linger like a shroud for many, including the cast. On this episode we start a recap on the last year, give holiday greetings to develop our collective parasocial relationship, and then dive into seasonal depression.
This week we have brought in the ozymandias Dr. Victor DeNoble onto the show to talk about his experiences in youth and anti-tobacco activism. Beginning with his delivery of the bombshell 1994 testimony to Congress about the addictive nature of nicotine, the podcast turns to discussion about education, addiction research, and general talk about DeNoble's philosophy.
This week the Gen Green crew is interviewing the one and only Chris Chavez, the Deputy Policy Director of the Coalition for Clean Air of the Greater Los Angeles Area. We begin with a rundown on what the CCA does, crap on Big Tobacco and Big Oil, then go into more fundamental questions that arch back into why youth like the YAFT Coalition are even involved in political engagement. Tune in for more of Johnny’s “lib dunking,” Jenny’s Spongebob memes, and Chelsea’s scientific expertise next week as the Gen Green crew does its part in securing a green future.
For those in the area, the Coalition for Clean Air will be assembling on the 6th of October in the Los Angeles Area. Check them out on their socials!

Today we rope in two amazing friends of the show, Fareha and Setara, to discuss their experiences as refugees from the now former Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. First the discussion is slow and deliberate with more anthropologically themed probes into their life and culture, but our wonderful guests help transition the conversation into their thoughts and observations on the recent events regarding their native country. Also, capybaras!
Also, the book mentioned by Fareha is "A Thousand Splendid Suns," by Khaled Hosseini, an Afghan novelist who similarly tells his experience as a refugee. Pick it up at your local library or, for university students, contact your local Middle Eastern or Afghan Student Union and organize with them to help elevate the voices of the diaspora.
And finally, YAFT is recruiting! Contact us at our email about joining via [email protected]! Thanks again for listening to our Gen Green podcast, powered by YAFT. Please reach out to us on our social media (@yaftocoalition on Insta, YAFT - Young Adults Fighting Tobacco on Facebook) to give us any feedback on this episode! Until next time!
