In Season 8, episode 7: The Legend of Black Jake, two not-so-bright criminals come to town and kidnap Nels Oleson. In this retelling of an old Bonanza script, Harriet refuses to pay the ransom and half the town ends up getting kidnapped. There is a bright spot, however, when Charles beats the absolute crap out of Rev Alden in a case of mistaken identity.

In Season 8, episode 6: The Great Gambini, an aging daredevil, Rudolpho Gambini, comes to Walnut Grove with his reluctant family to revive his career after almost dying in a dangerous coffin trick. The entire town, especially Albert, catches daredevil fever and attempts dangerous tricks themselves. Pa, Nels, Doc, and Rev do not approve. There’s a super dramatic bedside shunning, an offensive Italian accent, and some interesting facts come to light about Albert’s background.

Enjoy our coverage of the HBO MAX documentary Class Action Park

Join us as we remember the 80’s, a time of unregulated anarchy, at least for a bunch of teenagers in New Jersey. Action Park’s lawlessness became legend, and after watching this HBO MAX documentary, it’s obvious as to why. We are stunned by Uncle Gene, a mythical figure to the employees of the park who pretty much laid down their lives for him-and for a 100$ bill, and an irresponsible monster to others, mostly parents of those teenagers. We reflect on the Gen X pastime of trying to die for fun, agree that NJ isn’t sending us their best (sorry, NJ), and we realize Action Park could only be possible in the 80’s.

In Season 8, episode 5: A Wiser Heart, Eliza Jane and Laura travel to Arizona for some continuing education credits. We meet a very handsome, but slimy professor who macs on Laura and doesn’t seem to care that Eliza Jane has an awkward 8th grade crush on him. The trip turns into a nightmare for Laura as she is forced to wash dishes for Sally Spectra and share a small bed with Eliza Jane. Eliza Jane, meanwhile, is all into the pompous professor while the sweet and super smart Mortimer Carstairs pines for her from a distance. Laura seems to forget she’s pregnant, Manly is suddenly super liberal, and we have an academic off between two bloated egos.

In season 8, episode 4, Doc Baker is overwhelmed with patients- both human and horse- and must hire an associate. Caleb LeDoux and his wife, Mattie, show up to relieve Doc, which should solve everything except…they’re Black. Harriet is her awful self, Nels has zero power, and Charles has to punch another townsperson out in order to save a baby. In the end, the fine people of Walnut Grove almost run off this super qualified doctor and his wife, until Rev saves the day. Despite the LeDouxs committing to staying in WG forever, we never see them again. 

In other news, we address the current state of the country after some SCOTUS rulings, Amye hands out some medical advice, and Jennie has gotten her hands on some German graph paper.

In Season 8, Episode 2, The Reincarnation of Nellie Part Two, Nancy continues to terrorize the town and has her sights set on Albert’s newest crush, Jan from the Office. Jan nearly dies after Nancy locks her in the ice house, then nearly dies again as Doc Baker experiments on her. Nancy concocts a traumatic backstory to win the town’s empathy, only Charles discovers the truth and narcs her out. In the end, even though she really did have some childhood trauma, the entire town bands together to humiliate her publicly. 

Amye has taken over production duties and everything has been thrown into chaos, Jennie’s favorite Disney hero is Ursula, and we give a brief preview of what’s coming up in season eight!

In one of the wildest episodes in a while, Michael Landon recreates the Sanderson storyline with Jason Bateman and Cassandra Cooper. The Cooper children are orphaned after witnessing a horrific wagon accident in which their parents die right in front of their eyes. Charles, once again straddled with orphans, must find a home for these adorable kids.
