A lobotomy, is a form of neurosurgical treatment for psychiatric disorders that involves severing connections in the brain's prefrontal cortex. The surgery causes many of the connections to and from the prefrontal cortex, to be severed.The treatment was used mostly as a cure for depression, OCT, and schizophrenia. We now know more about these conditions and, as an example, research is starting to show that depression may actually have as much or more to do with your environment than your brain. Nonetheless, it’s most certainly not cured by carving up your frontal lobe.
