一份儿童与青少年权益保护团体的调查下显示，泰国曾遭遇过校园霸凌事件的学生竟然有9成之高，而其中13%的受害者因此抑郁。这其实就要提到该国校园长久以来的陋习——「迎新仪式SOTUS」，就是高年级学生会诱骗学弟妹到校外偏僻的地点，谎称「田野调查」或「迎新派对」，但实际上是要求新生做出屈辱、危险的行为来取悦自己，有时甚至还会闹出人命。

一名推特用户于7月16日上传的影片就让此事件再度掀起热议。影片揭示来自泰国曼谷私立东南亚大学的3名男大生在一次「迎新活动」中，被迫在众目睽睽下裸体跳舞，不仅有女学生在场，期间还有人全程摄影。 东南亚大学也就此事立即回应，表示该校早已严格禁止一切校外迎新活动，并承诺将让涉案学生接受应有的惩罚。
