泰国国会上议院三月份票决通过（145 票赞同、两票弃权）一项新法案：允准遵循性罪犯个人意愿以「化学阉割」换取缓行、减刑或提前释囚。而法案中第 12 条附带规定假释囚犯须佩戴电子脚镣，接受长达 10 年的持续监控。目前，法案仍需众议院三读票决、泰国皇室御准，便可生效上路。

尽管「化学阉割」早已在美、英、德、韩等多国立法落实，也有数据证明「化学阉割」确有降低性犯罪率的效果；然而，这类借药物抑制性欲的刑法仍受到侵害人权、导致性罪犯身心受创的争议。犯罪学专家认为：这类惩戒无法根治性犯罪，反而会强化罪犯再犯的念头。北京师范大学刑事法律科学研究院副教授赵军表示：在罪犯眼里，化学阉割可能是一种羞辱，会让他们产生报复社会的心理。
