📖 Mark 12:35-44

Are you tired of pretending? Exhausted from trying to look like you have it all together spiritually?

In this message, we confront the difference between surface-level religion and a real, life-giving relationship with Jesus. Through a bold question, a harsh warning, and an unlikely hero, Jesus shows us what authentic faith really looks like and exposes the fakes we often fall for.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

1. In what ways do we sometimes shrink Jesus down into a version that feels safer or more manageable? Which of the “knockoff versions” of Jesus (rule-enforcer, mascot, genie, etc.) do you most relate to or have struggled with?

2. Jesus warned, “Beware” of religious fakes. What are some modern-day examples of “all show, no life” religion you’ve seen? How can we guard our hearts against falling into the same trap?

3. The poor widow gave her whole livelihood, while the rich gave out of their surplus. What does this story reveal about trust, generosity, and where we find our security?

4. How does seeing Jesus as the greater Giver—the One who poured out His very life—change the way we approach giving, serving, or even daily living?

5. “No show, just life.” What would it look like for you, this week, to rest in the life of Jesus instead of trying to perform, prove, or fake it?

📖 Mark 12:28-34

What truly defines success in life and faith? In this sermon from Mark 12:28–34, we explore Jesus’ profound answer: Love. 1. Priority of Love – Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love God and love others. What does this tell us about the character of God?

2.  Redefining Priorities – In the story of Chris Gardner (The Pursuit of Happiness), love—not worldly achievement—was the true measure of success. How does God’s definition of success through love challenge the way you tend to measure success?

3  Pain of Love – C.S. Lewis said “to love is to be vulnerable to be hurt”. Where have you experienced the pain or cost of loving others? What fears or barriers keep you from loving the way Jesus calls us to?

4  Power to Love – The sermon emphasized that we only gain the power to love when we remember how deeply God has loved us in Christ. How does reflecting on the cross give you strength to love when it feels hard or inconvenient?

5  Growth in Love –  Are you a more loving person than you were last year?  How would you honestly answer that? What is one intentional step you can take this week to grow in love for God and others?

Why is it so hard to admit when we’re wrong? In this message from Mark 11–12, we explore Jesus' confrontation with religious leaders who refused to repent, despite every warning, story, and sign pointing them back to God. Like Ebenezer Scrooge, we all face a choice: ignore the truth or humbly confess, “I was wrong.” But confession isn't weakness. Rather, it's the first step to freedom, healing, and life built on the true Cornerstone.

This message challenges us to find the courage to:

1. Lose the approval of others,
2. Trust God with our lives,
3. Own our failures.

When we do, we discover that grace meets us right where we are.

📖 Mark 11:27-12:12

1. Who in your life are you most anxious about saying “I was wrong” to?
2. What area in your life is the hardest to trust God with? Is that mistrust right or wrong?

5. Pray for one another. Pray the promises of the Gospel over one another in these areas.

Have you ever been drawn in by something that looked amazing, only to be let down when you got close? That’s exactly what Jesus walks into in Mark 11. A fig tree that promised fruit but had none. A temple that promised God’s presence but had been hijacked by religious performance.

In this message, we see Jesus confront fake appearances, empty religion, and the systems that keep people from truly knowing God. He isn’t interested in leafy looks without fruit or hollow rituals without heart.

Jesus didn’t come to improve the system. He came to end it.

He came to bring the end of pretending.

This is a call to stop performing, stop faking, and start living in the real freedom Jesus offers. It’s time to trade appearances for authenticity.

It’s time to rest in His finished work.

📖 Mark 11:12-25

1. What’s an area of your life where you’re tempted to focus more on appearances than authenticity?
2. What “spiritual scorecards” do you tend to keep? In what ways do we still try to relate to God through performance, routine, or systems instead of trusting Jesus?
3. The temple was meant to be a house of prayer for all nations, but it became a barrier. What are subtle ways we can unintentionally become exclusive or keep people at a distance from God?
4. What does it mean to have “faith in God” now that Jesus has moved the mountain of sin and separation? How does trusting His finished work change your view of prayer, forgiveness, or fruitfulness?
5. “Jesus didn’t come to curse you; He came to be cursed for you.” How does this truth reshape the way you respond to failure, sin, or shame in your life, and help you stop pretending and walk in freedom?
