Generation Red: A Husker Podcast

I am flying solo for this episode, because Scott is on vacation. But don’t worry, he will record his own episode upon returning home early next week, and then we will team up again for a Purdue preview episode that will hit your podcast player by early next week.

In today’s show, I recap the Minnesota game by highlighting the 4 plays that altered the outcome. Then, I offer an explanation for why the effort out of the locker room was, well...uninspired. After that, we go over the stats, select some players of the game (including special teams), and reveal the results of Plus/Minus.

Then I review our Gen Red Top 25 Six Pack from Thursday’s episode, and pick 3 new games for this weekend. After all that, my poor croaky voice lasts just long enough to read a review from Podcast Addict and give you all the contact us particulars.

The crowd was incredible. The team was intense. The referees were absolutely awful. Michigan's defense was legit, but so was Nebraska's. And after being down 13-0 at halftime, the Huskers rallied in the 2nd half to yet again, take a one score lead into the 4th quarter. But in the end, stopped forward progress was ignored, a fumble occurred, and Michigan kicks a FG and covers the spread, 32-29.

In this painful recap of the Michigan game, Scott provides some wise and salient commentary on the state of Husker Football, we reveal our Players of the Game, share the results of the latest Plus/Minus Game, and wind things up by reading a couple more reviews. Come 6:30 this Saturday night, the Huskers will be face to face, eye to eye with those Red Dawn wannabes from Ann Arbor, with the loud, rabid fan base ready to rock Memorial Stadium to its core. And after their total domination over Northwestern last Saturday night, these hungry Husker players will be primed and ready to get Coach Scott Frost his first signature win over a likely Top 10 team. Had they taken care of business in Week 0 and 5, this could have been a clash between two ranked teams, BUT...that doesn't matter. What does matter, is NU needs three more wins to go to a bowl game, so why not have win #4 come at the expense of Michigan and Coach Khaki Pants?

Scott and I take you through a preview of the Michigan Wolverines, give our Keys to Victory, predict the final score, offer up a new Plus/Minus, debut a new segment called Gen Red's Games to Watch, and finish up with an awesome Fun Fact Segment...and we also read a couple of reviews our show has received right before we signed off.

Oh my. We have never been more happy to be completely wrong! Because on a cool, cloudy night in Memorial Stadium, the Huskers faced off against Hydrox NU in a normally-tough B1G West showdown under the lights, and it resulted in a 56-7 declawing of the Mildcats. From Nebraska's 1st offensive snap to the last, the Huskers left no doubt about the outcome. Add in a crazy loud sold-out crowd, another smothering performance by the Blackshirts, plus a surprising 84 yard punt by Will Prystupp, and there was no doubt: this was Nebraska's night.

Scott was there, while I had to listen to the game as I drove across Oklahoma. Oh, the irony.

Scott and I waxed (sort of) eloquent for the next hour as we looked at the final stats in the beat down of Northwestern, updated the Plus/Minus Game, and gave you our players of the game. Then we wrapped 'er up with a quick rundown of Thursday's episode, which will preview the upcoming game against the Michigan Hugh Jackmans.

That's right. Another episode drops on Thursday!

Yeah...we do a lot of that in this episode. Cursing too.

As difficult as it was, Scott and I sucked it up, cracked open the mics and some sparkling water to bring you these next 70 minutes or so. We engaged in some impromptu therapy as we unburden ourselves of a lot of honest and raw pain and disappointment.

Oh, what could have been! Nebraska's Blackshirts proved their mettle as they held an explosive Sooner offense to a mere 23 points, but they ultimately still fell 7 points short in Norman. No Sooner Magic this time. Instead, the Huskers were haunted by a familiar ghost named Penalties, while the Special Teams were also, um...Culpable in this loss.

The Sooners' return trip to Lincoln next year should certainly be full of intrigue… (Will Adrian Martinez still be in Lincoln too???)

Scott and I discuss the Oklahoma game, preview and predict the Michigan State contest, update the Plus/Minus game, and share more fun fa---er, maybe just facts. Yeah...just the facts. *sigh* We're just not fun people, y'all.

Two games won. In a row. A rarity in the Scott Frost Era.

Scott and I were in Memorial Stadium on Saturday to witness the Huskers' 28-3 victory over the Buffalo Bulls. It was hot. Really hot. And it was emotional, as we remembered the terrorist attacks of 9/11 on it's 20th Anniversary. Damian Jackson led first responders and the team onto the field in a memorable Tunnel Walk, while the team galvanized around a gutsy defensive performance to send the fiesty Bulls home with their first L of the 2021 season.

Then we switch gears to discuss the impending doom that seems to await the Huskers in Norman next Saturday, when they face off against the highly-ranked Sooners. We finish the show with another Fun Fact segment featuring Legos and a past memorable experience in Memorial Stadium.

Join Scott & I as we discuss the Huskers' 52-7 ramming of Fordham (see what I did there?) The Huskers overcame a shaky start, and we overcame a shaky internet connection to bring you this show. Yay us… It's a much more enjoyable podcast than the last one, and I likely over-enjoyed some bourbon toward the end too. Uh...oops.

Welp. It is our first game recap episode. *pours drink*

Looks like I picked a bad week to quit drankin’.

Scott and I review and respond to the debacle that was the Huskers’ performance on a sweltering day in Champagne, IL. From special teams stupidity, to the offense’s inability to get any kind of run game going, we cover it all. I can neither confirm nor deny that I was consuming a bit of rum as we recorded. We also covered the Blackshirt squad that was required to be on the field for nearly 35 minutes, and holy crap...it’s a wonder that NU got within 8 points. There’s also a Plus-Minus update, which is highly anti-climactic.

Fast forward to about 38 minutes if you want to just avoid hearing about the horrific effort against the Illini, and listen to our preview of Fordham instead. We wouldn’t blame you if you did. And to be quite frank, we wish we could have done the same thing.

As if that wasn’t enough, at about 40 minutes, someone begins to shower, which is located right behind the wall behind where I sat to record here at home. I hope the weird background noise isn't too distracting
...plus my pup Chip has been dealing with constipation and whatnot all afternoon, so he was whining in the background toward the end. And yes...I realize he sounds like a cat. *sigh*
