Davis Saltonstall's personal manifesto is ever-changing, but a core element of his drive comes from sustaining the environment. And it was with this focus that he chose to bike from Maine to Washington state in the summer of 2016. 

Davis originally set out to learn the stories of fellow citizens across the US and how their towns were being impacted from everything related to climate from coal mining to new forms of agriculture. In hindsight, there was more to understand in what was the summer prior to the 2016 presidential election. 

In this episode, we talk to Davis about some of his deeper reflections from that journey and others, as well as learn how he made a summer-long bike trip happen.

Thomas Furfaro discovered a fondness for international opportunities after attending his first Model UN experience. An Argentine seeking to amplify the voices of youth on the frontlines of social change, Thomas expands his international presence through research, acting as a United Network of Young Peacebuilders (UNOY) representative, and hosting his own podcast, Youth on the Frontline (recorded in Spanish). 

Jasmine Watson grew up knowing her father went to different countries as a part of his military service - but she didn’t completely understand what that meant until she was able to spend some time in another country herself. Her first program abroad led her to somewhere even her father hadn’t been to yet - the Kingdom of Swaziland - and from there, she never looked back. Now, Jasmine is the Assistant Director of Global Education at Claremont McKenna College where she advises students on their study abroad goals. In this episode, Jasmine drops quotes for travelers seeking cultural knowledge and awareness like there is no tomorrow, and reminds us that wherever you may be in the world, and whoever you might be speaking with, everyone has a birthday.

Brenda Flores-Reyes became a University Innovation Fellow in 2018, which granted her the opportunity to learn from her peers from around the world at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. After spending ten days exploring entrepreneurship and design thinking - the latter of which she has now taught herself in numerous workshops - Brenda recognized the joys of traveling with other people and strengthening her creative muscles through working with and learning from an international cohort.

Adán De La Paz is currently an International Student Services Advisor and Inclusion and Intercultural Engagement Advisor at the College of Idaho, where he is growing the number of international students and making major contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
