On this episode Che'lyn has a very insightful conversation with Dr. Andrea Blackburn-Brown. Dr. Brown is a Board Certified Family Medicine Physician in private practice in Desoto, Texas. Dr. Brown shares her personal/professional journey as a  multi-faceted black woman breaking barriers of systemic racism/cultural stereotypes in academic and medical spaces. She shares her insights and perspectives on the historical  evolution of physical/mental health and overall wellness. As well as how her faith/ family, defining moments and life lessons have shaped her trajectory personally and professionally. She also will shares insights on the importance of patient advocacy and building trust/ communication in patient/physician relationships.
Dr Andrea Blackburn-Brown is a  graduate of Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine, she has practiced Medicine for the past 38 years.  Dr .Brown has always believed the practice of Medicine to be a Calling – much like the Call to a Spiritual Ministry. She has received several awards citing her specific expertise and skill in the treatment of Diabetes, Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disease.  Her hope is to be instrumental in bringing about change in Physician/Patient relationships in the Medical Community through education, dialogue and collaborative efforts.
