GenErik

I've set out this year to make at least one mix or mashup a week, to keep up my skills. And to also upload them no matter what. This is one I thought was pretty mediocre as I was playing it, but on a subsequent listen not really that bad.

As with the first JMFE, this is mixed on the fly without consideration for genres or any pre-planning whatsoever. It's got a healthy helping of ghetto funk, swing, old school hip-hop, and even some 80s cheese re-edits.

Obsessed over this bleak, bizarre and amazing TV show lately. Binge-watched the entire thing on a recommendation by my good friend Brady. He emphasised the music. And no shit, the theme, repeated over the series, burrows into your brain.

I immediately wanted it in my sets, so I decided to make a full length dj-friendly remix. Hope you enjoy it as much as you will enjoy watching this show.

Last week's late podcast combined with an extreme workload threw off this podcast as well: No time to hassle to other DJs to do it for me even! So here's the last of the Open Air sets. This time actually THEMED. A live mix of tracks in (semi)-chronological order in the years Boyhood covered: 2002-2007 (didn't make it further in an hour).

But not only that (because that's hard enough). These are some of the tracks that I grew up with in that same period that shaped me. Oh, and despite all these restrictions, I pulled off a pretty coherent set. Have a listen. It's #tbt after all! (Or it would have been had the show gone out on time).

Skerik https://soundcloud.com/djskerik, which by name alone should exude brilliance, is bringing us the goods this week: Grooving deep and tech house that never steers into boring territory. If those first pad swells doesn't give you goosebumps check your pulse.

Now this might be new to some of you internet kids, but this set is going to take you on a journey. Like a well crafted album, it will bring you from point A to point B without you even considering it. It is a well thought out, detail obsessed hand-crafted musical experience of which are rare in a time of instant gratification. This is the chamfered edges of music: even if you don't pay attention you will still appreciate it.
