Genesis 1:31

Listen Later

31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.REFLECTIONSWritten by Vincent ChanI never thought the day would come when I would enjoy watching gardening shows – but there I was, watching 10 tips on how to make sure your garden bed is ready for planting. I know it’s not everybody’s thing, but there is something about planting flowers or vegetables, chopping a tree, mowing the lawn, doing some weeding – and then at the end of it all, surveying the work that’s been completed and feeling very satisfied. That’s probably true for other projects as well: a house that’s cleaned, an essay that’s written, a meal that’s cooked. On the 6th day of creation, God looked at what he had completed and saw that it was good. Atoms had been formed, stars had been created from dust, waters now flowed in streams and animals and livestock grazed the land. From nothing there was now something – and much more than just something! From chaos there was now beauty and wonder. God created and it was good. But it’s more than simply that things looked nice. Creation was good because everything was in order. The sun and the moon were in the sky where they should be. The birds and fish were in the sky and the oceans as they should be. And humanity was serving under God as they should be. The goodness of creation came from the fact that creation was living rightly under its Creator. It was very good.As you look around today, you don’t have to look far to see that there are many things in the world that are not good. But praise God for Jesus! He is seated at the right hand of the Father, reigning and ruling over God’s kingdom and plan. And as we come to live under him, order is restored in our relationship with God – something that is truly and eternally good!QUESTIONHave a look at the sun, or the moon and stars (or something else in creation). Why is it good that God made it?ABOUT THE AUTHORVincent is an Assistant Minister with our Fairfield congregations.
