Moses records members of Abraham’s extended family, setting the stage for later events in the book of Genesis. When Sarah dies at the age of 127, Abraham knows that he must bury her in the land the LORD has promised to give. He goes through the legal process of buying the field and cave of Ephron as a burial place for Sarah. This is the only part of the Promised Land that Abraham owns during his life. As Abraham received this land as a guarantee of the fulfillment of all God’s promises to him, so the LORD still gives His people today the Holy Spirit as the downpayment of all that is to come for us in Christ. Rev. Zelwyn Heide, pastor at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hanover, ND and Zion Lutheran Church in New Salem, ND, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Genesis 22:19-23:20. The first book of Moses sets the stage for God’s entire story of salvation. As we learn the beginning of the story, God prepares us to receive the fulfillment of the story: Jesus Christ, the Offspring of the woman who has crushed our enemy’s head. Sharper Iron, hosted by Rev. Timothy Appel, looks at the text of Holy Scripture both in its broad context and its narrow detail, all for the sake of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen for sinners. Two pastors engage with God's Word to sharpen not only their own faith and knowledge, but the faith and knowledge of all who listen. Submit comments or questions to:
