As Moses concludes the story of Abraham’s life, we learn about another wife of Abraham through whom God gave more children to Abraham, even as Isaac remained the child of promise. Upon Abraham’s death at the age of 175, Isaac and Ishmael join together to bury their father in the Promised Land in the same place Abraham had previously buried Sarah. Before telling us the continued story of Isaac, Moses gives further information on the family of Ishmael. Even though Abraham has now died, the line of the Promised Christ continues. Rev. Dr. Martin Dressler, pastor at Salem Lutheran Church and School in Black Jack, MO, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Genesis 25:1-18. The first book of Moses sets the stage for God’s entire story of salvation. As we learn the beginning of the story, God prepares us to receive the fulfillment of the story: Jesus Christ, the Offspring of the woman who has crushed our enemy’s head. Sharper Iron, hosted by Rev. Timothy Appel, looks at the text of Holy Scripture both in its broad context and its narrow detail, all for the sake of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen for sinners. Two pastors engage with God's Word to sharpen not only their own faith and knowledge, but the faith and knowledge of all who listen. Submit comments or questions to:
