Welcome to the 8th episode of Genre Equality - a monthly podcast dedicated to discussing all things on the geekier side of pop culture.
While our main topics this month delve into major live-action titles like Ant-Man & The Wasp, The Expanse and The Handmaid's Tale, this episode is predominantly focused on animation. Whether it's inventive Japanese anime like Hanebado!, Back Street Girls and Cells at Work!; or wonderful American cartoons like Steven Universe, Voltron: Legendary Defender and Trollhunters; we'll be recommending plenty from East and West.
In addition, we'll also be remembering the works of dearly departed creators (such as Harlan Ellison, Steve Ditko and Jon Schnepp), discussing the highlights from San Diego Comic-Con (Glass, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Eisner Awards 2018, etc.), and introducing a new segment called "Tie-In Issues" where we debate the big controversies surrounding genre properties (James Gunn's firing, Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot).
