I love this Caribo Crossing series

This is the third book in this series that I have read, Wow, I love the way Susan Fox describes the area and also how she brings the same characters back and adds new ones in to keep everything moving along...I just love Brooke and Jake's story so much...Brooke has had so many sad things happen in her life, Susan explores what addiction and mental health problems can do to destroy a family, but also the bright hope that recovery can mean to all involved...Jake is just the best guy, lots of issues but in the end I got my Happily every after...I highly recommend that you start with book/novella #1 Carribou Crossing, followed by Home on the Range, and then Gentle on my mind...well worth the money and my time...thank you Ms. Fox for giving your readers your very best with this series...hope there will be another one to follow.

Mixed feelings.

First off, major props to Susan for addressing bipolar and alcoholism in such a thoughtful and respectful manner. I think she did a wonderful job of this.

As usual, Susan's Caribou Crossing characters are very sweet and she has written a wonderful community.

With that said, Home on the Range is the only book in the series that I really enjoyed.

Gentle on My Mind needs some big help with editing. So much of the [inner and outer] dialogue sounds so contrived. The characters say or think the word, "damn" 57 times! Other overkill included references to being cousins. Yes, we know that Jake is pretending to be Brooke's cousin. We do not need to be reminded 59 times. I'm not exaggerating. This is the actual number of times it's referenced. And did people actually use cousin as a title ("Hi, Cousin Brooke!") after the 1950s? A lot of the writing seems outdated. I don't know any 35 year old man who would use the word "pal", let alone a tough cop.

Brooke is only 43. Yes, she's a grandmother. But it was difficult to forget that she wasn't in her 60s.

A sweet read, but one that struggles to sound current or plausible.
