Julie shares the early moment she realized she was a high achiever, and how that awareness shaped her path, including the imposter syndrome that often shadowed her success.  Her story spans continents, from Canada to Thailand to Germany and beyond, and includes her years producing documentaries, work that eventually brought her to Russia.

After a long season of exploration and searching for purpose, Julie found grounding and deep validation in motherhood.  This part of her journey resonated strongly with Nicole, and we dive into the complicated ways society values (and undervalues) stay‑at‑home moms as well as discuss gender norms and roles.

In this episode, we welcome Nashville recording artist and media coach Amy Scruggs. Amy takes us back to her GenX childhood just outside Los Angeles, where she enjoyed the classic unsupervised bike‑riding freedom of the era—yet grew up in a small, sheltered bubble within her community. With limited exposure to the wider world, she turned to the music, movies, and TV of the 80s to understand life beyond her neighborhood. Music quickly became her outlet: she discovered the piano, joined choir, and found a sense of identity through performance.

An unplanned pregnancy at seventeen changed her trajectory, but Amy’s determination opened doors. She landed a dream job that allowed her to perform while also providing stability for her and her son. Marriage and two more boys followed as she embraced stay‑at‑home motherhood—until life shifted again. After her divorce, Amy stepped into a sales role that offered security as a single mom, and at the same time, an unexpected opportunity to become the lead singer of a band emerged.

A chance encounter in Nashville would eventually spark a remarkable new chapter, but not before Amy toured with her band and poured her heart into supporting the veteran community. Another curveball came her way, yet once again she rose to the challenge—ultimately becoming a television host and later a Nashville recording artist with her single “What If It All Goes Right.”  She also became the mother to a beautiful baby girl, who officially completed the family.

Amy also shares, with honesty and grace, what it was like to become a full‑time caregiver for her father during his battle with Alzheimer’s. Her perspective and resilience deeply moved us. We also explore perimenopause, menopause, and how GenX is redefining aging through what Amy calls “Legacy Living.”

Her story is a powerful blend of perseverance, love, grit, and that signature GenX scrappiness. We absolutely loved having her and were inspired by every minute of her journey.

In this episode we welcome Kim Muench, Parent Coach and Founder of Real Life Parent Guide.  Kim shares about her upbringing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and how her anxiety as a child was severely exacerbated as a result of multiple moves that included bouncing between public and Catholic school.  We reflect on 80s heartthrobs like Jake Ryan from 16 Candles, and how GenX girls were sold completely unrealistic relationship goals.  We also relate over the fact that GenX rarely got carded for alcohol, and as a result found themselves in dive bars or purchasing alcohol from local convenience stores at very young ages.  An unexpected pregnancy during her freshman year at University of Wisconsin - La Crosse changed the trajectory of Kim’s life, as she found herself a young mother at the age of 18.  Kim’s perseverance in escaping an abusive relationship and creating a new life as a single mom to her young son led her on the path to meeting her husband of 34 years who is also father to four of her children.  As their family grew over the years, Kim was faced with the reality of raising a child who suffered from addiction.  Kim candidly shares her journey with her son as he entered rehab, lost his father and encountered run-ins with the law.  This part of her story is shared in her book - “Becoming Me While Raising You: A Mother’s Journey to Herself”.  Through sharing her parenting experience, Kim grew a following on social media where for years she has been offering guidance and advice on parenting emerging adults.  Kim truly understands the tools parents need to collaborate with their adult children in a way that will foster a partnership of understanding and respect.  Through Kim’s vast insight, parents are able to take a few steps back to gain better perspective using Kim’s protocol of the “Four C’s - Clear, Calm, Confidence and Consistent” along with an understanding of the three things they can truly control.  Kim’s second book, “Lost In Place: How To Motivate, Support and Launch an Adult Child”, is due to release in November 2026.  “Lost In Place” is Kim’s version of the term “Failure to Launch”, with the premise of if you’re lost you can always be found.  This episode dives deep into parenting adult children and touches on so many aspects of parenting in general.  Couple that with Kim’s inspiring story that she shares so openly and graciously and you have an episode not to be missed!  We loved having Kim on and learned so much about our own parenting style.  We look forward to having her back as a return guest in the future!

In this episode we welcome Jon Wellington, also known as The Dadbod Veteran.  Jon shares about his GenX childhood in Charleston, South Carolina, which included growing up on a military base as well as experiencing a civilian upbringing.  We learn about his ADHD diagnosis, and how medication combined with therapy and coping tools helped him downshift and find a balance that allowed him to thrive.  We learn about how his love of football became a focal point in his life in addition to helping him find purpose during his high school years after the loss of his father to cancer.  Joining the Navy coincided with becoming a young father, and we reflect on the sacrifices military families make as Jon shares about his extensive travels around the world when he served as an FC, or Fire Controlman.  Shore Duty brought Jon back home to Charleston and his family, and we discuss the differences between corporate and military as he transitioned between the two.  Jon shares about having a blended family and his beautifully unique situation, and we learn about the moment The Dadbod Veteran was born.  As The Dadbod Veteran’s audience grew, so did more opportunities and experiences.  An inquiry form Sherri Dindal, also known as The Real Slim Sherri, led to the phenomenon that is now known as The GenX Takeover.  Together with GenX personalities Nick Harrison aka The Professor, Kelly Manno and of course, The Real Slim Sherri, Jon has become part of a touring comedy show that has literally taken on a life of its own.  With comedian Justin Rupple as emcee, and musician Jojo Malagar added to the show, the GenX Takeover Tour has amassed such a following that they have 26 shows, and counting, booked for 2026!  We marvel at Jon’s inspiring journey from military to corporate to stand-up comedy, as he offers us a glimpse into his method of preparation before he steps on stage.  It truly is a courageous undertaking at any age, but especially to brave it midlife.  The feat is even more impressive considering Jon just underwent hip surgery, a journey he candidly shares with us.  Jon’s blend of military and corporate background, combined with his obvious pride and love for his wife and children, quick wit and quiet intelligence and courage to do the non-normative thing midlife is sure to inspire many GenX listeners.  We truly enjoyed our conversation with Jon and can’t wait to attend another show!

In this episode we are excited to host our first guest from the Silent Generation.  Sharon candidly and openly shares her inspiring life story.  We learn about her great-grandparent's adventures during the Oklahoma Land Rush, and how her great-grandfather arrested Jesse James and The Dalton Boys when he was a sheriff in Kansas.  Their move to Oregon in the early 1900s secured a Portland, Oregon upbringing for future generations.  We discuss WWII, and the resulting affects of PTSD on the men who fought and how that affected women and family life going forward.  Sharon shares about her childhood which was rooted in responsibility, change and for a period, silent trauma.  We cover the concept of abuse as a child as well as abuse within a marriage.  Sharon reflects on a time where she sought therapy in any form presented, whether it was through reading, research or even through the prison system that her brother flowed in and out of as he battled addiction.  Through her own sheer strength and sense of hope that she was deserving of a better life, she cleverly and quietly escaped her abusive marriage.  Sharon shares her heartbreaking experience of her daughter going no contact, and expresses it with a grace and vulnerability that can only be described as a gift of understanding to anyone who can relate to the sheer pain a mother must process in such a distorted situation.  As Sharon herself put it, “I was trying very hard to come to a reasonable explanation for an unreasonable situation.”  We learn about how, post-divorce, she finished her degree in one year by taking an overload of classes, and how a one-way ticket to southern California for a new position was the transitional moment into securing herself a new journey midlife.  We learn about her work with TIP, Trauma Intervention Program, and how she used her own traumatic experiences in life to simply be an anchor for people when they were in the midst of sudden tragedy.  One common theme throughout our conversation was that Sharon’s grandmother was her anchor, and there’s probably no measure to how far her influence reached in Sharon’s life.  Sharon shares about her years living in Arizona, and eventual return to Oregon to live near her beloved son, family and the Pacific Northwest.  As stated earlier, this is an episode that will inspire, plain and simple.  You truly don’t want to miss this one!  In closing, we’ll quote Sharon once again, “I don’t do negative, what’s the point?”

In this episode we welcome Nick Harrison - The Professor.  Nick shares about growing up in Northern Louisiana, where he was surrounded by a loving and supportive family.  Houston, Texas also played a positive role in his early years when he would spend time with his father and family there.  His formative years included the typical GenX childhood of being outside until the streetlights came on, Boy Scouts, The National Beta Club, choir and even an early attempt at stand-up comedy.  High school brought Nick an opportunity to be his school’s mascot, which included attending cheerleading camp.  Nick shares how MTV played a pivotal role in his love of music, and how he “has rhythm but can’t dance”.  After graduation, he attended Grambling State University, where he pursued his dream of performing by becoming a theater major.  Post-college, Nick gave back to his theater community at Grambling State by becoming a professor in the theater department.  Seven years later, he shifted to teaching 5th grade, and it was during those years where Nick discovered social media.  In a whirlwind, Nick found his audience, and they found him.  His mixture of authenticity, fun and kindness combined with a vibe that can easily be summed up as happiness, struck a chord with thousands of people.  Before he knew it, he had 1 million followers on TikTok, with Instagram and Facebook to follow.  A call from WWE was a dream come true, and resulted in a stint with WWE in New Orleans.  That was also the week he had his first date with his wife.  An opportunity to be a contestant on a reality show led to spending the day with Jay Leno discussing cars.  The ultimate collaboration with fellow GenX personalities Sherri Dindal - The Real Slim Sherri, Kelly Manno and Jon Wellington - The Dadbod Veteran, resulted in Nick’s current project, The GenX Takeover Tour.  2025 brought comedian/host Justin Rupple and musician Jojo Malagar to the mix, and together they took the show on the road and even a cruise!  2026 already has 26 shows booked!  Along with his co-stars, Nick brings the talent and positivity his fans have loved to the stage, where he can continue to connect with them on an even larger scale.  We absolutely loved our time with Nick and look forward to seeing him again at one of the shows.  Until then, Go Bills!

In this episode Nicole shares her experience navigating through her pelvic organ prolapse journey.  We discuss the vital need of pelvic floor therapy for women.  Nicole shares about her struggle with fibroids and bleeding, which ultimately resulted in a hysterectomy in 2020.  She reflects on when she first noticed symptoms of prolapse, and the steps she needed to take to receive an official diagnosis and treatment.  We discuss her first appointment with her urogynecologist, which included a procedure called a video cystoscopy.  Nicole candidly shares about her second appointment, which was for urodynamic testing that included a filling cystometry, pressure flow study, uroflowmetry and electromyography.  Under her doctor’s guidance Nicole has chosen a surgical path to correct and repair her pelvic organ prolapse.  This choice was made after extensive research and a second opinion from a different urogynecologist.  The procedure, called a Sacralcolpopexy, uses a synthetic mesh to attach the top of the vagina to the sacrum (tailbone).  Nicole will also be having a perineorrhaphy done to further repair and support her pelvic floor.  Nicole discloses that she has three pre-op appointments scheduled before she’s cleared for surgery, and she will share with listeners details of each appointment.  She will also share about her surgical experience and recovery.  It is in the hopes of sharing her journey that she will help other women who may be dealing with some form of prolapse, as well as educate women about the importance of pelvic floor therapy, whether they’ve had children or not.
