In this episode of Power Surge, we're honoring the late Gene Hackman, a true legend who proved that reinvention is possible at any stage of life. Hackman wasn't a Hollywood prodigyโhe was told he would never make it. But instead of accepting defeat, he pushed forward, breaking into acting in his 30s and becoming one of the most respected actors of all time.
Then, at age 74, he did something remarkableโhe walked away from Hollywood on his own terms. No farewell tour, no clinging to past gloryโjust a smooth transition into his next passion: writing. His journey is proof that reinvention isn't just for the youngโit's for anyone ready to embrace change and create a new chapter in life.
Episode Highlights:๐ญ From "Least Likely to Succeed" to Hollywood Legend โ How Hackman defied the odds and built a legendary career. ๐ Oscar Wins & Iconic Roles โ From The French Connection to Hoosiers, how he left an unforgettable mark. ๐ A New Chapter โ Why he walked away from acting and became a novelist. ๐ฅ Lessons in Reinvention โ What we can learn from his journey and apply to our own lives.
Brought to You By: 22 Too ManyThis episode is dedicated to Brandon Robinson, a Marine Corps veteran who served two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. A thrill-seeker, motocross enthusiast, and devoted father, Brandon was deeply loved by his family. His story serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggles veterans face and why raising awareness about PTSD is crucial.

In this episode, Del and I are joined by two of our absolute favoritesโClaire Young and Caroline Connellyโwho had just returned from that year's epic voyage. They gave us the full rundown on:

But, as always, we took a few fun detours along the way, chatting about:
๐ Ke Huy Quan's emotional Oscar win โ A moment that had us all cheering! ๐ฅ Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny trailer โ Back when we were filled with anticipation (and just a little skepticism) for Indy's return. ๐ก And plenty more '80s goodness!
So whether you're about to board this year's cruise or just love living vicariously through those who have, this episode is the perfect way to set the mood. Let's go back to 2023 and jump right into the conversation!
