Georgian Bay Roots

June 10, 2018 Ep. 89 (R.I.P Ted Rusk) by Georgian Bay Roots

The first two acts fo this show are dedicated to Stan Rogers and include an interview with Jame Keelaghan explaining some of Stan's impact on Canadian music. The final act features new music from the Lifers, a track from youth discovery Willem James Cowan, and one from the Great Canadian Swampstompers

We went with a simple theme for this week: act one is all about single performers, act two is all about duos, and act three...you get the idea. Easy as one, two, three! Featuring music by Trent Severn, Dala, Teresa Levasseur, The Good Lovelies, Jon Brooks, The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer, Big Little Lions, Fred Penner, Drew McIvor, De Temps Antan, The Dry Bones, Ash and Bloom, The O'Pears, and Bill and Joel Plaskett!

It's our ode to the most Canadian Holiday of them all, the TOOFOR weekend! We're all about bonfires, barn dances, beach blasts and backwoods bunkies. Party down with tunes from Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer, The Slocan Ramblers, Fred Penner, The Hut People, Beppe Gambetta, Julian Taylor, Bahamas, The Urban highlanders, The Boxcar Boys, Samantha Martin, Rose Cousins, Leonard Cohen, Regina Spektor, Adonis Puentes and much much more!

It's the Mother's Day edition of Georgian Bay Roots!

We hear about some great musical moms, and Kelly Babcock stops by the studio for a special session!

Jon is back behind the mic this week to deliver songs about May, tracks from trios, and a feature interview with Farideh Olsen of Rosie and the Riveters.

On this week's episode of Georgian Bay Roots we explore music and instruments that highlight the contrast between "light" and "dark", and showcase the beauty that can be found in both sides.

Tough Girls (and the boys who love them) take charge this week on Georgian Bay Roots!! Roll up the rugs and dance with women who belt it out with the best from the worlds of blues, country, folk and gospel. Host Ted Rusk matches up pioneers of their genre with today's powerful performers. Big Mama Thorton and Samantha Martin, Wanda Jackson and YOU SAY PARTY , Ruth Brown and Treasa Levasseur. Plus The Dirty Dishes clean house, sisters under the skin Kim Doolittle and Suzie Vinnick show their softer sides, Tanika Charles toughs it out in Parkdale, while Corin Raymond & The Sundowners and The Great Canadian Swampstompers sing about the tough girls they love. Our Feature Performer this week is chamber folk master Raine Hamilton, talking about her album Night Sky and upcoming show Raine Hamilton at The Bleeding Carrot. Then Sister Rosetta Tharpe tells us all what's what...
