The beleaguered and much-ridiculed Washington Football Team created shockwaves throughout the NFL and sports world on Monday, Aug. 17, 2020, when it hired the first Black president of football operations. The Washington Football Team fills the void at that position after owner Daniel M. Snyder fired Bruce Allen in December 2019. Snyder also had hired another person of color, Ron Rivera, as head coach and had him oversee football operations as a way to have a unilateral voice for the team.
Despite his relative youth, Wright joins the squad armed with an illustrious resume in his post-playing days with a bevy of Fortune 500 and other companies.

Will Smith, Kevin Hart to Star in ‘Planes, Trains & Automobiles’ Remake
Will Smith and Kevin Hart will star in and produce a remake of the 1987 road comedy “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” for Paramount Pictures.
The original “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” was directed by John Hughes, and starred Steve Martin and the late John Candy as a pair of mismatched businessmen trying to get home to Chicago for Thanksgiving in the face of a variety of travel disasters. The remake will be a modern update of the original, with Smith and Hart playing characters who are forced to team up to tackle travel obstacles to get home to their loved ones.
Hart’s Hart Beat Productions and Smith’s Westbrook Studios are developing the remake. Aeysha Carr (“Brooklyn 99”) is set to pen the screenplay, marking her feature writing debut. Hart and Smith will produce the film alongside Westbrook Studios co-president and head of motion pictures Jon Mone and Hart Beat’s president of film and television Bryan Smiley.
Smith was most recently seen in “Bad Boys for Life.” He’s in production on “King Richard,” in which he stars as the father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams. Hart was last seen in “Jumanji: The Next Level” and has completed production on the drama “Fatherhood,” which Sony will release in April 2021.

Both good and bad business news for Greenville
There is a combination of both good and bad news to report about the Greenville business scene.
On the plus side, the city of Greenville is enjoying a robust increase in sales tax rebate revenue generated from local merchants and a downtown supermarket that closed last year is getting close to reopening.
On the other hand, two major department stores that are part of the Promenade Shopping Center are in their final days. A rededication of a percentage of the sales tax revenue goes toward the 4A economic development corporation.
• A former grocery store at 2601 King St. is seeing new life, as crews have been renovating the 17,000-square-foot building, most recently the home of Migalito’s Supermercado until it closed in September 2017.
Roberto Meza, who originally opened the Supermercado in 2006, has returned to reopen it as the Fresco Supermarket.
• The J.C. Penney store in Greenville is scheduled to close its doors this summer, according to an announcement in June from the company’s corporate office. A clearance sale was in progress at the store Wednesday.

Ongoing construction to make downtown McKinney more walkable, city says
The first phase of an extensive downtown McKinney construction project is set to finish this fall, as work continues on the “Light Up Louisiana” project on Louisiana Street.
Ongoing work is taking place between Church Street and Kentucky Street, with construction between Tennessee Street and Highway 5 scheduled to begin early in 2021. The project includes “necessary utility, drainage and pedestrian improvements and will also include upgrades to paving, landscape and lighting,” the city says.
With wider sidewalks, hanging light bulbs and more planters and traffic-easing infrastructure, the program should help the area become more pedestrian friendly, allowing people to more easily walk between businesses and entertainment destinations in the area.

The hit show Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is reportedly getting a “dramatic” reboot. The reboot will be titled, Bel-Air and is described as “a dramatic take on the former NBC comedy that catapulted Smith to stardom after he spent six seasons starring as the street-smart kid who moved from Philly to the upper-class neighborhood.” Bel-Air has reportedly been in the works for more than a year after the four-minute clip went viral back March of 2019 and caught Will Smith’s attention. According to The Hollywood Reporter the reboot based on Morgan Cooper’s viral clip is “currently being shopped” streamers and is a co-production between Smith’s Westbrook Studios and original producers Universal TV. Sources say that Peacock, Netflix and HBO Max are among the streamers who are bidding on the potential series. HBO Max is the current streaming home for the original series. The Top List of Best Cities to be Stuck at Home
Out of 150 cities on the list, here’s how North Texas cities ranked:
85. Arlington
“The best city to live in during this mess? Frisco, Texas, according to the authors. (Yeah, we've never heard of it, either.) We're dubious of the claim: Texas has become one of the nation's coronavirus hotspots this summer because its leaders reopened its economy too soon." In 2018, Frisco was named MONEY Magazine's #1 Best Place to Live in America in 2018.
In March, Smart Asset named Frisco the #1 most recession-resistant cities for 2020.
Of course, Frisco is home to the Dallas Cowboys.

We live in a world where everything changes, where one day one thing is cool and the next day it is old-fashioned and ridiculous.
More than 100 people were arrested Monday, and at least two were shot, following a night of chaos in Chicago’s upscale Magnificent Mile shopping district and other parts of downtown after crowds smashed windows and looted storefronts in a move that city authorities are calling “pure criminality.” “Criminals took to the streets with the confidence that there would be no consequences for their actions,” Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said at a Monday morning news conference. “This wasn’t an organized protest. It was an incident of pure criminality.” Looting continues in downtown Chicago as of 5:45am. These people are coming out of the Block 37 mall on Randolph west of State Street. Looting has been going on all over downtown and the Magnificent Mile since around midnight. Police are all over the place. On Monday morning, store owners and employees were left to pick up the pieces—sweeping up glass and surveying empty storefronts. Staffers of the family-owned Dalal Liquor store, which has been in business for 33 years, told The Daily Beast they are “shell-shocked” by the violence.

Juelz Santana is now a free man.
The Dipset rapper was released from prison Wednesday, following a week-long delay. Santana's wife, Kimbella, confirmed the big news minutes before he walked out of the Petersburg Medium Federal Correctional Institution in Hopewell, Virginia.
"Juelz was supposed to get released last Tuesday but some shit happened," she said in a video posted to Santana's Instagram page. "But we're outside of the prison now and he's gonna be released any minute. And I'll leave it all up to him when he gets out. Stay tuned!" Santana received a 27-month prison sentence in late 2018 for gun- and drug-related charges. The now-38-year-old rapper fled Newark Liberty International Airport in March of that year after TSA agents discovered a loaded handgun and eight oxycodone pills inside his carry-on. Santana turned himself in several days later.
KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) — There's an aluminum can shortage around the country, and beverage companies are linking it to the coronavirus.
"Once the pandemic hit, it created a situation where bars were closing down and people were purchasing packaged beer instead of going to the bar and drinking draft beer. They have about one-third of the inventory in our warehouse that they normally would have. It's not just alcohol. Canned soda has been affected as well, with some stores not having the variety they are used to having. This means you might not see your favorite drink on the shelf. It's going to create inventory shortages for quite some time.

The rapper recently hinted that the next album in his 'Tha Carter' series is finished.
The song, which features Young Money artists Jay Jones and Gudda Gudda, features on the deluxe edition of his recent album, which the rapper shared this year, without any warning in February. Reviewing ‘Funeral’ upon its release earlier this year, NME wrote: “Some may call the playful immaturity a weakness, but the most successful moments of ‘Funeral’ see Lil Wayne leaning into being a big kid.
Clorox, the world’s biggest maker of disinfectant cleaning materials, said consumers will continue to see a shortage of its wipes and other products into 2021 because of overwhelming demand during the pandemic.
Why everyone is talking about Coca-Cola's new soda
Coke says people working from home need an afternoon pick-me-up
A new niche in Coke's line-up. A new sub-category called refreshment coffee. As people have been in lockdown or … working from home, there's a real opportunity to get that boost, that little pick-me-up, whether it's the slump in the afternoon or mid-morning." Pepsi announced plans to introduce a similar beverage called Pepsi Café, which comes in two flavors, Original and Vanilla, that are amped up with Arabica coffee. Coca-Cola with Coffee is already on the international market. So when Coca-Cola with Coffee launched across more than 25 international markets, including Australia, Italy, Spain, and Thailand in 2019, the company didn't say whether it would bring the drink to the U.S. but left open the possibility: "I believe that there's going to be a space for a Coca-Cola With Coffee." If so, the new drinks could arrive in the U.S. in 2021.
The real reason they took the cocaine out
There's a reason it's called Coca-Cola — the soda used to contain cocaine. This isn't some national secret, although Coca-Cola tends to downplay it. There was a time when the drink was considered medicinal. Dr. John Pemberton put just enough cocaine in his new soda to give you a fix, and it was eventually named Coca-Cola. Coke removed the cocaine in 1903, but if you're thinking they had to, you're wrong. The US government didn't ban cocaine until 1914. So why did Coke jump the gun early? Racism. Because Coke was so affordable — at around a nickel a bottle — anyone could buy a coke, and that included blacks. Whites feared "negro cocaine fiends" would rape white women, all hopped up on nickel Coca-Colas. Southern newspapers at the time spread the fear by reporting on gangs of black men high on cocaine taking liberties with proper Southern Belles. There is still coca in Coke today; but without the ecgonine alkaloid it's harmless.
