Before Avengers: Endgame hit theaters, we decided to sit down and record an episode where we lay out our predictions for the Marvel movie. This is that episode. We've now seen the Infinity War sequel and know everything that happens in the world of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, and others, but at the time we knew nothing. Filmed completely in 360-degree virtual reality, Defrost follows the experience of Joan Garrison as she awakens from cryogenic freezing 30 years later to find her loved ones are now strangers. As a viewer, you'll assume the point of view of Joan and experience her story in an incredibly immersive environment. This unique VR series stars Carl Weathers (Predator, Rocky), Bruce Davison (X-Men), Veronica Cartwright (Flight of the Navigator), Chris Atkins (The Blue Lagoon) and Harry Hamlin (Clash of the Titans). Thanks to backing by Netflix and a slew of Oscars for his last outing, The Shape of Water, del Toro will finally be able to put his spin on the tale of a wooden puppet come to life. Apple made a huge announcement last week, revealing its new video streaming platform, Apple TV+. Joining them at the unveiling was a roster of A-list talent behind the original movies and TV shows launching with the service in the fall. They definitely got the best of the best with names like Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams, Oprah Winfrey, M. Night Shyamalan, Jennifer Aniston, Octavia Spencer, Kumail Nanjiani, Ron Howard, Jason Momoa and tons more tapped for original productions. We discuss what we should expect from the service, how it'll fit into the current streaming landscape and whether it's too little too late for the tech company to edge into the original video content sphere. After months and months of constant berating, Thiago finally watched Halloween 2018, and while Nick and Neal thought it was fantastic, Thiago was only lukewarm on the Michael Meyers flick. So of course, we had to debate it and try to violently force our opinions on each other. There's a long history of comedians turning to dramatic movie roles and totally killing it. We wanted to examine this trend and see why it works. What makes a comedian such a damn good actor?  From Whoopi Goldberg winning an Oscar to Steve Carell knocking it out of the park in everything he does, there seems to be some significant overlap between comedy and drama. Let's talk about it.

It's been reported that Steven Spielberg plans to address the Academy Board of Governors in an effort to change the rules on what may qualify for an Oscar nomination. Specifically, he wants to exclude anything that doesn't have at least a four week run in theaters. This would exclude recent nominees like the Netflix movie Roma and other movies that originate on streaming platforms. So with that being said, we have a lot of arguing to do. We each have opposing views on the subject, and while we do argue, we also engage in a more civil, intellectual debate. In other words, Nick doesn't yell at anybody in this episode.

In this episode, we interview the director of In Search of Fellini, Taron Lexton. The unique director takes us through his early inspirations and how his path to filmmaking was strewn with success as well as the requisite failure. He imparts many of the lessons he's learned along the way and how he finally found his voice. Taron also takes a moment to let us in on his next project and how he plans to go where no filmmaker has gone before. When he pulls it off, it'll be historical.
