Brian Tom is a visionary speaker and business leader who went blind from glaucoma at the age of 20. He takes Dr. Marissa back to that time when the sadness and anger was transmuted into a desire to be more. Instead of becoming one of the statistics (less than 19% of the blind employment aged individuals were gainfully employed, and less than 1% of all disabled Americans own a home so the American dream is out of reach), Brian Tom built a successful business that helps over 10,000 students cross the finish line. Brian also took his business savvy, his personal philosophy of “No Excuses” and his desire to give back to start his award-winning 501 ©3 Non-Profit Organization, Blind Start of America, with the mission of “Helping the Blind Cross Finish Lines!” This year, BLINDSTART’s Dragon Boat Race Team made history, being the First Blind American team to represent the USA at the Club Crew World Champions in Australia this March 2016. Although Blind, Brian has a clear vision to inspire, and teach entrepreneurs how to be highly profitable with stewardship no matter what challenges arise. He's been featured on NBC, CNN Headline News, has authored 3 books and educates "the Asian Oprah"...winning Dr. Marissa's Beneficial Presence on the Planet Award. Staff interpreter Romina Mena makes this episode one of the Radio for a Deaf community series.
