To all appearances, Joe Heath is a typical straight married man, living with his wife and two teenage children, commuting to work, playing sports, enjoying a beer.... For one thing, his relationship with his wife has deteriorated to the point that theyre sleeping in separate bedrooms, only staying together until the kids have left home. And theres something else: for the last few years, Joe has wanted to have sex with another man.
A chance encounter with a trainer at his gym launches Joe on a series of encounters - some casual, some serious, some comic, some dangerous, all of them erotic in the way that only James Lear can make them. Soon, Joe is living a double life: breadwinner and father by day, sexual adventurer by night - his hunting ground the online dating sites that give him access to anyone and anything he wants.
While My Wifes Away is hot, but its also an odyssey of self-discovery as Joe tests the limits of his new freedom. Can he survive in a world of instant sexual gratification? And will he ever find someone to love?
Members Reviews:
No Mystery here; Lear is not at his best.
Lear is generally an excellent writer, but this novel has a weak storyline. Joe Heath realizes his marriage is over, but he does not realize for quite a while that his wifeâs absence is because she is carrying on an affair. His uncertain journey into a new phase of life begins with a gym encounter that makes him wonder if he is now bisexual, or perhaps gay. Encounter by encounter resolves the issue, but the M/M scenes are not up to Learâs usual ability and the story feels flat. Itâs possible that Lear needs the focus of a mystery to keep his storyline tight.
Great Story
I am a big fan of James Lear's work. I've read most of his books. His characters are always well crafted, interesting and have great depth.
Joe, the main character is hard to like at times, but that is what makes
His books so fascinating and readable. I love his descriptions of sex. Just
delicious! I can't wait for his next story!
Contemporary romance from a great author
I'm going to be honest. This book is a break from Mr. Lear's more traditional work. This is a contemporary coming of age story if you will where the protagonist finally comes to a deep understanding about himself. Well written and sexy where it needs to be, this book is a great addition to the author's work. But, honestly won't be upset if he returns to his period pieces.
The only chap that has his stuff together is an out man and Mr Lear paints a good story of him
As usual Mr Lear is coming through with his man on man sex but there is an underlying thought of all the "straight" men, married, not gay -as they see it- but have an on-going hunger for man sex. The only chap that has his stuff together is an out man and Mr Lear paints a good story of him. Some wonderful descriptive portraits of a man's body, hairy parts and all and as usual, some great humor. He is by far the best erotic queer writer at present!
Gym Bodies
Nobody writes like James Lear. The research, the amount of detail, the sex. All of it believable and complicated. I thought this had
less humour than his others under this name but I suppose the subject needed that. He is the best.
