  • Orthodoxy Audiobook by G. K. Chesterton

    Title: Orthodoxy
    Author: G. K. Chesterton
    Narrator: John Lee
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 40 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-21-11
    Publisher: Tantor Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 190 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Written by G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy addresses foremost one main problem: How can we contrive to be at once astonished at the world and yet at home in it? Chesterton writes, "I wish to set forth my faith as particularly answering this double spiritual need, the need for that mixture of the familiar and the unfamiliar which Christendom has rightly named romance."
Chesterton likens orthodox Christianity to a man who set out in a boat from England and was quite excited to land on an island only to soon discover he had, in fact, landed on England. "I am the man who with the utmost daring discovered what had been discovered before." This is Chesterton's autobiography. It is his story of finding the familiar and unfamiliar in Christianity. It is his hunt for the gorgon or griffin and in the end discovers a rhinoceros and then takes pleasure in the fact that a rhinoceros exists but looks as if it oughtn't.
In Orthodoxy, Chesterton argues that people in Western society need a life of "practical romance, the combination of something that is strange with something that is secure. We need so to view the world as to combine an idea of wonder and an idea of welcome." Drawing on such figures as Fra Angelico, George Bernard Shaw, and St. Paul to make his points, Chesterton argues that submission to ecclesiastical authority is the way to achieve a good and balanced life.
    Critic Reviews:
"Whenever I feel my fiath going dry again, I wander to a shelf and pick up a book by G. K. Chesterton." (Philip Yancey)

  • Reasons to Believe Audiobook by Scott Hahn

    Title: Reasons to Believe
Subtitle: How to Understand, Defend, and Explain the Catholic Faith
    Author: Scott Hahn
    Narrator: Grover Gardner
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 13 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-20-10
    Publisher: christianaudio.com
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 340 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
In Reasons to Believe, Scott Hahn, a convert to Catholicism, explains the "how and why" of the Catholic faith - drawing from Scripture, his own struggles, and those of other converts, as well as from everyday life and even natural science. Hahn shows that reason and revelation, as well as nature and the supernatural, are not opposed to one another; rather, they offer complementary evidence that God exists. He is someone, and He has a personality, a personal style, that is discernable and knowable.
Hahn leads readers to see that God created the universe with a purpose and a form - a form that can be found in the Book of Genesis and that is there when we view the natural world through a microscope, through a telescope, or through our contact lenses.
At the heart of the book is Hahn's examination of the 10 "keys to the kingdom" - the characteristics of the Church clearly evident in the Scriptures. As the story of creation discloses, the world is a house that has a Father, a palace where the king is really present. God created the cosmos to be a kingdom, and that kingdom is the universal Church, fully revealed by Jesus Christ.

    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
We all have ideas that we tell ourselves about God and how he works in our lives. Some are true--but many are false. James Bryan Smith believes those thoughts determine not only who we are, but how we live. In fact, Smith declares, the most important thing about a person is what they think about God. The path to spiritual transformation begins here.
Turning to the Gospels, Smith invites you to put your ideas to the test to see if they match up with what Jesus himself reveals about God. Once you've discovered the truth in Scripture, Smith leads you through a process of spiritual formation that includes specific activities aimed at making these new narratives real in your body and soul as well as your mind.
At the end of each chapter you'll find an opportunity for soul training, engaging in spiritual practices that reinforce the biblical messages on your mind and heart. Because the best way to make a complete and lasting change is to go through the material in community, small group discussion questions also accompany each chapter. Those who are leading apprentice groups will also find additional help and opportunities to interact with other leaders at the Apprentice website.
This deep, loving and transformative book will help you discover the narratives that Jesus lived by--to know the Lord he knew and the kingdom he proclaimed--and to practice spiritual exercises that will help you grow in the knowledge of our good and beautiful God.

    Publisher's Summary:
"The more I looked, the more I found Christian atheists everywhere." Former Christian atheist Craig Groeschel knows his subject all too well. After over a decade of successful ministry, he had to make a painful self admission: although he believed in God, he was leading his church like God didnt exist. To Christians and non-Christians alike, to the churched and the unchurched, the journey leading up to Groeschels admission and the journey that followsfrom his family and his upbringing to the lackluster and even diametrically opposed expressions of faith he encounteredwill look and sound like the story of their own lives. Now the founding and senior pastor of the multicampus, pace-setting LiveChurch.tv, Groeschel personal journey toward a more authentic God-honoring life is more relevant than ever.
Christians and Christian Atheists everywhere will be nodding their heads as they are challenged to take their own honest moment and ask the question: "Am I putting my whole faith in God but still living as if everything was up to me?"

    Critic Reviews:

"...the book incorporates Strobel's journalistic skills to tackle several of the most persistent objections to belief in Christ....
The Case for Faith is for readers who may be attracted to Jesus, but still have formidable intellectual barriers with emotional undertow inhibiting them from fully committing their lives to Christ....As one who was a spiritual skeptic for many years, Strobel relates well to those who object to the faith on emotional and intellectual grounds...."

  • The Lamb's Supper Audiobook by Scott Hahn

    Title: The Lamb's Supper
Subtitle: The Mass as Heaven on Earth
    Author: Scott Hahn
    Narrator: Scott Hahn
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 4 hrs and 29 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-31-09
    Publisher: Random House Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 343 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Best-selling author Scott Hahn sheds new light on the Mass, offering readers a deeper appreciation of the most familiar of Catholic rituals.
Of all things Catholic, there is nothing that is so familiar as the Mass. With its unchanging prayers, the Mass fits Catholics like their favorite clothes. Yet most Catholics sitting in the pews on Sundays fail to see the powerful supernatural drama that enfolds them. Pope John Paul II described the Mass as "heaven on earth", explaining that what "we celebrate on earth is a mysterious participation in the heavenly liturgy."
    Critic Reviews:
"Hahn's enthusiasm...is considerable - and infectious. Furthermore, he delivers his arguments with great levity (demonstrated in chapter titles such as "Oath Meal"), which makes The Lamb's Supper quite a tasty read." (Amazon.com review)
