Great Start of understanding this business
This has been a very easy purchase. Received in a decent amount of time. Product is great! Will purchase again.
    Good quality product
    Fast delivery. Good quality product.
    Good Novice Book
I have to counter the bad reviews. This book, like the others in the series, is meant for someone who is an absolute beginner. The only criticisms in previous reviews are that the book is not advanced enough.
I knew 0% about import/export when I got this book. From that viewpoint it has been great! This sticks to the absolute basics and defines all the elementary professional jargon. It assumes you know nothing. There are so many details in export/import that such a low-level book is essential. Also, following the formula of the series, the authors give a little psychological test of whether you are suited for the career and they show some hypothetical balance sheets and start-up costs. This is perfect if you are just poking your nose into a new field and need to make decisions about whether to pursue further research. I have read a number of books in the Startup series and they are all useful. Also good is that the authors have interviewed a number of professionals to gather some real-world experiences.
As long as you know that this is a base level introduction, you can't but give it five stars!
Light reading to start you off... not much more..
This is the first book I read when I decided to start my own import/export business. It's light, easy reading and mildly humorous, making it a quick read and is good for basic definitions if you don't know anything about import/export. The first 60 odd pages have a straightforward basic description of the import/export process, after which the book goes into marketing, how to do business in foreign countries, what equipment you need..etc.. and all the other stuff you should actually know already as part of your life skills. Having lived in a number of other countries and learned some foreign languages, and having a good grasp of IT and telecommunications, I found the last 2/3rd's of the book pretty useless, but it may be helpful if you've been living under a rock your whole life. For those who want the real 'meat and potatoes' from the get go, I recommend the Dummies guide and Kenneth Weiss book on Starting an Import.Export Business. Happy trading :)
    a great starting point
This is a great starting point. The subject of import/export can be very complex, but this book is simple right to the core. Yes there are some lame jokes, but the information is solid and the book well researched, and is full of all the information you need to understand this area of business.

According to Reichheld, this measure of customer satisfaction should be at the heart of all strategic decisions made by every company. He presents compelling case studies to show how customer satisfaction is more important than any business criterion besides profits. You'll learn how financial pressures have caused some executives to sacrifice true customer satisfaction in exchange for "bad profits". Such shortsightedness undermines long-term growth and success. An awakening message
This is an excellent book: it really reminds you that customers are ruling and many companies are forgeting this at their own expense.
The book provides and easy to apply methodology to realy focus your business to the customers, in fact, not in declarations. It gets upgraded from 4 to 5 stars for the practical methodology described by the author.
I recommend the book to anybody who wants to excel in business.
    Good idea, poorly narrated
I like the idea and the concept of this book - a little overexplained, but that's forgivable. The narration, and editing, of the audio however, are very poor - the repeat takes are so badly cut together, it makes the narrator sound like a non-native English speaker who isn't always sure where to put the emphasis in a sentence.
    Good profits
Simplistic in its approach but enduring if obtained. Business leaders should read this book to re-calibrate themselves on the golden rule and how it can be truly measured.
    Great Book!
Performance wasn't the best, but the message was amazing! Well worth a listen... Especially if you are in a business...
    Ultimate Question
Would you listen to The Ultimate Question again? Why?
Loved hearing this book on my iPod. I am not much of a book reader and was given the assignment to read the book by my company. I was able to listen to it a couple of times and have the ideas in my head clearly to discuss them at the meeting.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, I listened to it over several days when I had time.

    Great ideas with customer focus
    I really liked this book.
it was clear in its examples and my brain is overloading with ideas.
it could have contained one more example but it's not critical.
worth a second, third and even a fifth read.
terrible follow up to a great first book.

In today's workplace, managers must be able to accept accountability for the overall well-being of the company, yet also be able to give up the need to control or be controlled by others. Author Peter Block discusses ways to create a new kind of workplace, where every employee thinks and acts like an owner, by integrating management with workers to increase productivity. This program features exclusive interviews with the author, Harley Davidson President/CEO Richard Teerlink, best selling author Margaret Wheatley, and others who have benefited from these time-tested principles.

    Great Thoughts
I found Peter Block's ideas fascinating. Peter Block is an experienced consultant with some revolutionary ideas about how business and government should be run. In this book he talks about service, community, empowerment, responsibility and accountability. He shows how work and family life can be more fulfilling and rewarding for all of us if we can change our thinking on how business is structured. Critics may think he's too idealistic, too radical, too impractical, but the interviews at the end of the audiobook show how these ideas are being successfully implemented in three different organizations, a school district, a police department, and at Harley Davidson. Margaret Wheatley, author of "A Simpler Way" and "Leadership and the New Science", both available at Audible, was also interviewed.
Change is difficult and those in power now will probably have the most trouble accepting these ideas. But these ideas can transform us and society, and they should be embraced by all.
    A New Way of Thinking
Block presents the concept of stewardship as a new form of leadership or governance that places service ahead of self-interest and creates partnership rather than dependency. It takes the idea of empowerment presented in his earlier book, The Empowered Manager, to a whole new level. Block is constantly contrasting traditional leadership with the model of stewardship with phrases like "service over self-interest," "patriarchy vs. partnership," and "dependency vs. empowerment," to name a few. The main idea is that commitment to the larger community or organization is what creates effective organizational systems, and we inspire that commitment by allowing those involved to create the vision
Love the concept but can it be done?
Would you listen to Stewardship again? Why?
I've listened to it twice and will probably listen to it many more times on my long commute. I love this radical departure from the normal corporate ideology. It's very appealing to an entrepreneur like me who's had to fit herself into the corporate grind after calling my own shots for a few decades. Many, but not all, are hungry for ownership and a share in the rewards and privileges. This will take a lot of willpower and determination to implement, along with a healthy dose of un-indoctrination. Not sure it can be accomplished, but will be fun to try!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Stewardship?
When we take ownership, we give up the luxury of having others take care of us.
What does Michael Toms bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Very low key, laid back presentation. Peaceful voice.

    Publisher's Summary:
David Allen, author of Getting Things Done, uses lists so he doesn't have to make a plan. This may seem counterintuitive, but it's actually extremely intuitive thinking. As soon as something crosses your mind, it is best to deal with it immediately in the most appropriate way. Most of the time, that means writing an action item down on a list to do later. But addressing thoughts as they occur to you, even if that just means acknowledging them and planning on saving them for later, frees up your mind so the real critical thinking can be done on issues that really matter.

    Good Reminder of GTD Reasoning
You could use this quick listen two ways. One way to use it is as a refresher if you've read David Allen's book Getting Things Done several times and are implementing the practices (or trying to move into them.) The second way it could be used is as a quick overview to decide if you want to know more about GTD. If trying to decide whether or not to use GTD methodology with this information, do yourself the favor of listening to it 5 or 10 times before deciding not to. He moves fast in this excerpt.

Conventional product development focuses on the solution. Empathy is a mindset that focuses on people, helping you to understand their thinking patterns and perspectives. Practical Empathy will show you how to gather and compare these patterns to make better decisions, improve your strategy, and collaborate successfully.
    Members Reviews:
    Insightful, pragmatic and inspiring
As a long-time meditator and peace activist, I tend to be wary of the sudden recent "rediscovery" of empathy in design and business. Yet among all the shallow posturing, every now and then you come across a writer or designer who really does understand what is needed. Indi Young is one of those who has thought deeply about empathy and its role in collaboration and design. Her book is titled perfectly - this is above all a guide to applied, empirical empathy in our work.
And it does take work. The words practice, teaching, learning, repeating all stand out. I really like that Practical Empathy is both aspirational ("It feels different to be a true listener,") and realistic ("You are not expected to embrace everything written here wholesale. Instead, incorporate bits and pieces into your regular work practice.")
What you practically learn here is how to listen in a new way to the needs of users - and the techniques for doing so are neither obvious or easy. And building on that listening, how to structure what you hear into patterns of behaviour that you can, in turn, use as the basis of design decisions.
I recommend the book - and the accompanying website - without hesitation. And if you are fortunate enough, do take the opportunity to study the techniques first hand with Indi. I did so recently in Seattle and it was an outstanding day of learning.
    I love this book
This book has totally changed the way I communicate with people, and our customers. Empathy is something one needs to practice and cultivate. I have been making excellent progress since reading this book. For me this book goes way beyond the "customer" it also includes my family members and people I work with everyday. It includes strangers I meet on my daily train commute.
    Science of Emotion
Indi Young brings the scientist's mindset to solving for emotion in design. Her guidance is clear and ready to follow as you design for empathy and emotion.
Love it. Drives home what empathy really is and ...
Love it. Drives home what empathy really is and isn't. Caused me to think differently and hopefully, therefore respond differently.
    Five Stars
    Read it! ;-)

We need new ways of thinking and doing if we are to turn potential into performance. Managing at the Leading Edge provides a new evidence-based roadmap for leadership success in a dynamic context.
Managing at the Leading Edge highlights lessons from the navigation and piloting practices used in high performance sailing. In the contemporary "white water" business environment, as at sea, achieving goals requires choosing a destination amidst uncertainty, adjusting to continually shifting conditions, converting the push and pull of environmental forces into momentum, and using different skills at different times to negotiate hazards and achieve success.
Easy-to-grasp and recall, this book proposes a framework of leadership with a dual focus on navigating and piloting. This framework is supported by new evidence-based insights about personal and organizational high performance. Systematic comparisons of high performing leaders and organizations with leaders and organizations that have not yet achieved this distinction illustrate how the principles of navigation and piloting apply. Really Helpful!
This audio had a lot of helpful information. I'm taking some business management classes right now and I actually mentioned some of the information I learned in this audiobook in class. Great narration!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. The fact that I was gifted this book had no influence over my opinion of it
    Informative and Inspirational Business Book
As a business owner, I'm always in search of the next great business book that going to teach me something new, or tell me something I've heard before, but in a way I've not heard it before.
I'm happy to announce that this book fits the bill. Not only does it tell me things I have not heard before (like the importance of not allowing seasonal dips to get you down), but it also told me things I already knew in a way I hadn't heard before (such as scheduling people well in advance so that they can have a life that's more predictable, and thereby find one less reason to hate their job because they never know when they are working).
The author of the book gives a nice, long introduction, which at first I didn't understand, but as she drew me into her background and story, I understood why she recorded it herself. The audio quality of the author's intro was inferior compared to the recording of the book itself, which was rich and professional. But I forgive her for the tinny quality of the recording because it was brief, and the content was great.
After the author's intro, Jim Seybert did a fantastic job narrating. He threw himself into the narration with the perfect balance of acting when there was a phrase with emotion or frustration to convey to the reader, and he was great in that regard. Not once did I sense that he was reading a book. It was like he was just telling me the advice, making it up as he went. That's how smooth the reading was.
