Addressing the age-old question "What is real?", Dr. Hawkins discloses many levels of reality, and how what is real at one level is not real at the next. So what is real? Does reality exist independently of observation? And what if emotions have nothing to do with reality? We mentally process and edit products of the linear world, so all information is tentative at best. Dr. Hawkins also reveals the life-altering declaration made by under 1% of humanity. He explains the difference between reality and truth, and how to increase the likelihood of making choices that lead toward truth. Find answers to these provocative issues in this enlightening seminar.

    A great gift book
An incredible devotional book centering on the names of God. Each short chapter gives an explanation of one of God's names, Scripture relating to that name and a short story-type illustration.

    Awesome book

Meditating on the Names of God
This review first appeared on my blog, Jacob's Café.
Names can be powerful things. Those of us how have children can all probably relate to how much we thought and debated about what word they would be labelled with the rest of their lives as central to their identity. Lucky for God, He wasn't limited by just one name. :)
I've seen many short devotionals and works of art based on the many names of God. In his short book, Your Great Name: Discovering Power for Your Life in the Awesome Names of God, Michael Neale explores some of the names of God used throughout the Bible and based on his song, Your Great Name.
For well-studied biblical scholars, there probably isn't much new information, but I don't think that's how this book is meant to be used. Texts like this remind me that worship and being in awe of God isn't necessarily just about getting information and understanding. Sometimes it's simpler, just hearing the names of our Lord and meditating on them. Frankly, being able to listen to a short audiobook, taking a break from having to be as critical of a thinker, actually helped me feel more connected to God.

    Publisher's Summary:
One of the difficult issues for many Christians who are divorced and remarried is the fact that there is no evangelical consensus about what the Apostle Paul wrote to the believers in Corinth. Thank you for dealing with this honestly and without altering the meaning of the Apostle's words! And thank you for such a thorough investment of real research and practical spiritual wisdom into a subject which needs more careful attention in the Body of Christ!

    Torn Asunder
Finally, a book that is not legalistic and is supported by the Bible. This book is a godsent to me as I had too long heard too many legalistic, etc. people. Divorce isn't an easy road by any means. Remarriage, after divorce, has its pitfalls too. This book shows how both should be done Biblically. Many "church" people who have not been through a divorce should read this and show the divorced individuals the love of Christ.

    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
An updated edition of the down-to-earth resource that offers twelve practices to make Christian faith a way of life Many Christians are looking for ways to deepen their relationship with God by practicing their faith in everyday life. This best-selling guide helps take belief out of the realm of theory and shows how to live it out in a series of twelve central practices such as hospitality, forgiveness, healing, testimony, and keeping Sabbath. Designed to work across a wide range of Christian laypeople, leaders, denominations, and study groups, this is the second edition of the book that Theology called "... a stimulating contribution to the work of making explicit the connection between what Christians do and what they believe."
This updated and expanded new edition includes a new introduction and two additional chapters that describes new insights into and experiences with the "practicing our faith" approach.
The book includes a variety of prominent contributors, who draw on their rich shared experience as believers, theologians, ethicists, and educators.
    Members Reviews:
Why We Do What We Do
Why do we do the things we do? This book answers that question related to practices of our faith. Written by various authors and edited by Dorothy C. Bass, chapters include titles you might expect such as: Hospitality and Keeping Sabbath. But there are also chapters on: Household Economics, Testimony, Dying Well and Singing Our Lives. Since our lives are largely shaped by the things to which we say "yes" and "no," there's a chapter on that very topic. I liked the quotations and scripture that were included by related topics.
The book offers insight behind rituals we often come to take for granted. For instance, a chapter on Honoring the Body explains how touch is involved in activities such as passing the peace and foot washing, and as part of worship, such rituals teach us to lovingly embrace one another. While the book doesn't cover all the practices of the faith (you might expect whole chapters on Bible study and prayer, but they are assumed as related to the other practices), it offers groundwork for discussions you might want to add. This would be a great book for a group study since the final chapter helps readers apply the book's guidelines to their own situations, and it includes an appendix of "Suggestions for Conversation and Reflection." Altogether, the book helps us think about the how and why of practices of the faith and so fosters our love and service to God and others.

    Ho hum book good seller
book delivered on time by seller, good price. However the book itself was just average, some good information but overall uninteresting and dated.
For any Christian seeking to apply their faith
I used this for a class in modern ministry. She offers wonderful perspectives into how to practice our faith, not just study it or talk about it. Very insightful, encouraging and challenging.
    Five Stars
    Super book; well described.
    Practicing Our Faith
I love this book! I'm in a study group in my church, and I couldn't stop at the chapter we were supposed to read for our first meeting; I've read the entire book in the last two weeks, using it as part of my daily devotions.

An Encouraging Message for those Who Want to Make a Difference in the Kingdom of God
Subversive, according to dictionary.com means to undermine the power and authority of an established system or institution. The power and authority that needs to be undermined belongs to Satan who is the head of an established system and institution that opposes that of Christ. With this definition in mind, the job of those who are active in the Kingdom of God is to be subversive, to undermine Satan and his established system and institution. Several key concepts, principles and themes in this book include teamwork, institutionalism vs. incarnational ministry, and the power of small groups of people working together for a common cause.
Teamwork according to Stetzer is what makes the dream work. Maybe not in so many words, but thematically speaking. The author appears to embrace the church as an institution- more about that in a bit- and as an institution it is composed of a group of individuals under godly leadership. He writes, âYou can unite with others in your church to put the world on notice by living Godâs Word together in the midst of hurting, seeking, unhealthy humanityâ (54). Again, Stetzer encourages churches to form and work together as a team to undermine Satanâs Kingdom.
But while Stetzer recognizes that the church is an institution, he also believes she should be incarnational. For the author, it is not an either/or proposition, itâs both. The danger Stetzer believes is when the church backslides into simply being an institution or gets so caught up in being incarnational that she is guilty of preaching a social gospel. Stetzer believes in the proclamation of the gospel and the demonstration of the life, death, burial and resurrection of Christ in the lives of his believers. He writes, âWe do it by going, we do it by proclaiming his truth with clarity, but we also do it by walking âwisely toward outsidersââ (198). Subversive workers in the Kingdom walk and talk.
Finally, Stetzer believes churches small in number can make a huge difference! âAs agents of transformation in Godâs subversive kingdom,â he writes, âwe donât need to apologize for being few in number focusing on one little area or need around us, making what seems a small impactâ (38). This is an encouraging message! God uses small things to make a radical difference in the world, thus Jesusâ illustrations comparing the church to Salt, Light, and Yeast, all seemingly insignificant yet powerful ideas.
This readers has only two criticisms regarding the book. First, it is difficult to read at times because it is so meaty.
