In this special episode of the podcast, Josh Britton answers some of the most common questions we get about the program. Starting with the motivation to build the program in the first place, he explores the rationale behind the way the program awards points, why students have to fix their mistakes, why some problems can give penalties, and what even is a "naxvip?"

In this episode of the Get More Math podcast, Josh chats with Rita Sponenburg about how after 18 years of teaching math, the pandemic finally forced her to switch to a flipped classroom.  That coupled with Get More Math,  Rita is able to wake up each morning and reflect on how much she loves her job, not an easy thing to do in the middle of a pandemic.   Now that she’s adjusted, she says there’s no going back.

Rita has been teaching high school math,  at Pottsville Area High School (her alma mater) for almost 18 years. She started using GMM about 4 years ago when it was introduced to Pottsville.  Rita has two “sensational daughters: a 28-year-old chemist who lives in Chicago and works for a Northwestern University laboratory, and a 20-year-old free-spirited yoga teacher who is quite grounded and deeply insightful.” 

In this episode of the Get More Math podcast, Josh is joined by two math teachers from Daniel Boone High School in Gray, Tennessee.  Listen as both teachers explain how they have adjusted to the difficulties of remote teaching and how their students advocated for GMM, even going so far as to write letters to the board to ensure they’d get to continue using the program.

About our Guests
Christa Oeder is in her 11th year as a teacher and in her 4th year using GMM. Originally from Ohio, she currently lives in Johnson City, TN. She has enjoyed teaching high school math courses throughout the years, including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Precalculus. Her current focus is in Algebra 2.

Erika Hale was born and raised in West Virginia but went to high school in Illinois before eventually settling in Gray, TN.  She has been teaching for 5 years and has been using GMM for 3. She is married with 3 kids, 6 cats, and a dog. Yes, you read that correctly, 6 cats.

About our Guest
This is my 18th year of teaching at the Midd-West School District in Middleburg, Pennsylvania. For the first 12 years, I was the yearbook advisor, taught Precalculus, Trigonometry, as well as Algebra I & II, and served as math department chair. I currently teach 6th-grade math and continue to represent the math department at the curriculum council. I learned about GMM in 2018 and quickly realized this is what my team needed to pull us out of a standardized testing slump. We went from 15/16 in our region to #1 for growth on the Math PSSA! GMM made that possible for us. I am married with a son and two stepdaughters. We love to go on vacation, make S'mores around the campfire, and watch Disney movies. My hobbies include making scrapbooks and working out.

About our Guest
I currently teach 8th Grade math at Tyrone Area Middle School in Tyrone, Pennsylvania.  This is my 14th year of teaching.  Throughout my career, I have taught anywhere from pre-algebra up through dual-enrollment Calculus.  I am married and have 3 stepsons.  We enjoy doing anything outside, including spending time on our boat on the lake.  We also love camping, hiking, and kayaking – especially with our dog Bear and our newest puppy Grizzly.

In this episode, Lari Gallaher shares how Get More Math has been especially useful in her remote classroom as she navigates education in the COVID era. Lari is a Pennsylvania math teacher and girls varsity soccer coach. She began using GetMoreMath in 2015.  In the beginning, she primarily used it to create worksheets, but slowly transitioned to using it 2 days a week in her Math Lab, mainly for retention of previously learned concepts. That progressed to using for homework purposes along with worksheets and note sheets. Now, she uses GMM as the Daily Warm-Up (Mixed Review), Assignment for new skills, and mixed review for homework. No more paper worksheets or tests. 

In this episode, we’re hearing from a long-time Get More Math user, Tiffany Smith.  As a high school Algebra teacher, she’s seen a dramatic change in students as more and more grade levels in her district utilize the program. About our Guest
I graduated from Saint Francis University with a mathematics degree and concentration in actuarial science. I went back to school and got my teaching certification. I am currently a teacher of 9-12 graders. I currently teach Algebra 1, Algebra 2,  Statistics, and Pre-Calculus. I have been teaching at Tyrone High School for ten years. For the last 4 years, I have been an avid user of Get More Math in my classroom. It has truly changed my life as a teacher. Outside the classroom, I am a mom of two daughters, a three-year-old, and 6 month old. Our family loves anything outdoors including camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, and working out.

In this episode, hear from Texas Teacher, Cody Kirkland. Through using Get More Math in his middle school classroom, Cody was able to change the overall landscape of how his students approached learning math. Bringing his energy and drive to the classroom, over time Cody saw his students not only improve their math skills but become excited about solving the problems and wanting to learn more. With the onset of COVID-19 protocols last spring his students were unable to take their standardized state tests, and if you can believe it, they were disappointed that they did not get to showcase their newfound love of math.
