    Title: Master and Man
    Author: Leo Tolstoy
    Narrator: Walter Zimmerman
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 2 hrs and 10 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 01-26-09
    Publisher: Jimcin Recordings
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 24 votes
    Genres: Classics, European Literature
    Publisher's Summary:
Tolstoy is know primarily for his epic novels like War and Peace and Anna Karenina, but he also wrote a number of excellent short pieces that carry the same kind of themes on a much smaller scale. Two of the best are Master and Man and The Death of Ivan Ilych.
In the story, a land owner named Vasili Andreevich Brekhunov takes along one of his peasants, Nikita, for a short journey to the house of the owner of a forest. He is impatient and wishes to get to the town more quickly to purchase the forest before other contenders can get there. They find themselves in the middle of a blizzard, but the master in his avarice wishes to press on. They eventually get lost off the road and they try to camp. The master's peasant soon finds himself suffering from hypothermia.
The master attains a spiritual and moral revelation, and Tolstoy once again repeats one of his famous themes: that the only true happiness in life is found by living for others as the master acts a way he never thought was possible.
    Editorial Reviews:
Famous for epic novels War and Peace and Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy also wrote psychologically adept, morally engaged short stories like "Master and Man".
Tolstoys 1895 story concerns a journey taken by a landowner with one of his serfs into town, where the wealthy landowner will complete a business transaction. The two are caught in a blizzard. Its in this crisis that the "Master" is confronted with a revelation about humanitys true purpose in life.
With his ringing voice, Walter Zimmerman offers a crisp, intelligent performance of this Russian masters humanist parable.

Tolstoy a great thinker and observer
I think this author was an amazing thinker in his time. I should say he was ahead of his time. He writes this story as if he was there or this telling were part of his experience.
He nails the thinking of the characters as one who might have know them. I felt bad about the horse in the end.
The foolishness and the arrogance of the man in charge does not escape my own thoughts about some of the people I have met, not willing to listen to reason. It was amazing to see someone who was living in such an environment and should have understood the danger, but so full of himself that he ignored all the tell tale signs. He did vindicate his main character in the end in a very dramatic way. Tolstoy, one of the best writers ever.
excellent. totally enngaging. naratorr quite wonderful!
a most enngaging tolstoy offering! rread in onee sitting as unable to put it down!

    Narrateur: Claude Cyriaque

    Langue: Français
    Date de publication: 10-10-08
    Éditeur: Le Livre qui parle
    Evaluation: 4.5 sur 5 sur 12 votes
    Genres: Classics, European Literature

    Editorial Reviews:
Authors contained in this short story collection include Pushkin, Tolstoy, Flaubert, and Francois Coppe among others. Walter Zimmerman's subdued and reflective voice establishes a no-frills listening experience; the deep emotions of each story comes from the language itself, and his ponderous tone reflects the collection's overall moral gravity. Listeners will enjoy this lucid performance of classic - albeit some of the lesser known - 19th-century French and Russian stories.
    Members Reviews:
    Great stories, read adequately, usually
Narration on this is of the older sort, when acting was more subdued and more monotone readings ruled. There are some strange voices and some dry flat performances, but if you can work through that, the stories are gold. But I have a hard time listening for long as it makes me a little tired. I think that is as plain as things can be, so I will not elaborate. I really enjoy the selection and every one of them has charm and value.

    Five Stars
    Good quality and cheap.
    Me encantó!
Humorous and enjoyable book to read
Great book with lots of humor in the form of short stories. Would highly recommend to any English teacher or professor that teaches a class.
    No TOC
This is for the Kindle version: Love the translation, it is far better than the free products. But, there is no table of contents. With 100 stories and a price of almost ten dollars, I figured that is what I was paying for. Really disappointed considering I got the print version for three dollars at a used book store.
    Great Read!
The stories were fascinating and the entire book was well written (or possibly well translated). Some would perhaps think this book rather long but the stories themselves are fairly short making (most are only 3-4 pages long) making it easy to follow along with what's going on. Overall the stories are fun and all are entertaining.

    Resumen del editor:
This monumental masterpiece by Marcel Proust (1871-1922) is an immense portrait of an entire society and is considered as one of the greatest novels in all literature. As its title shows, Proust tried to recover in his work what the past had been, and in doing so, made an incisive analysis of his times, with unforgettable characters - most of them were based on his acquaintances. This work reflects one of the foremost travels through the subconscious ever written.

    Reseñas Editoriales:
Boldly narrated with adventurous bluster by FonoLibro, La Guerra la Paz is the abridged Spanish translation of Leo Tolstoys masterwork, War and Peace, the legendary Russian epic of historical fiction concerning the devastating French invasion of Russia in 1812.
This grand, sweeping story with a revolving cast of characters goes from the ballrooms to the battlefields, and features exquisitely described scenes of political upheaval, love and heartbreak, death and despair, and faint glimmers of hope. This title is firmly entrenched on an extremely short list of true all-time classics.

    Reseñas Editoriales:
Narrated with amorous masculinity by FonoLibro, this is the Spanish retelling of Madame Bovary, Gustave Flauberts literary classic and one of the most scandalous books of its day.
The story focuses on Emma Bovary, a bored married housewife who desperately hungers for beauty and status and the desires of the flesh. Were described her erotic extramarital sexual affairs with a series of gentlemen in sumptuous detail.
Madame Bovary is still as passionate and titillating today as it was upon its infamous release in 1856 and is perhaps best enjoyed with a fine bottle of wine. Please note: This audiobook is performed in Spanish.

Durée: 2 hrs and 19 mins
    Langue: Français
    Date de publication: 08-13-07
    Éditeur: Frémeaux & Associés
    Genres: Classics, European Literature

    Title: The Satires
    Author: Juvenal

Length: 5 hrs and 51 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-01-06
    Publisher: Audio Connoisseur
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 47 votes
    Genres: Classics, European Literature
    Publisher's Summary:
Indeed, these masterpieces of biting social commentary could easily have been written today about any number of metropolitan areas we are all familiar with. Almost anyone who comes into contact with these vitriolic rants against the foibles of humanity will be struck by the similarities to our own times. There are many famous catch-phrases from Juvenal that listeners will immediately recognize ("One rotten apple spoils the whole barrel," among others.)
Juvenal did not like Rome, or at least not what it had become by the late first century A.D. And, in poetry crackling with cynicism, outrage, and passion, he tells us in great detail precisely what he loathes about the times he lives in. In a rough, tough, and slashing manner, Juvenal has left us 16 satires on various subjects, including woman's vanity, sexual license, avaricious courtiers, base cupidity, heartless displays of vulgar wealth, hypocrisy, despicable aristocrats, back-stabbing social climbers, and vile superstitions. Nothing escaped his penetrating gaze.
Little is known about Decimus Junius Juvenalis, the poet we know as Juvenal. He took up writing in his maturity and lived from about 60 to 140 A.D., a period that encompassed the reigns of Nero through Antoninus Pius. He is thought to have been a soldier, but all we know of him comes from his own pen. Although easily one of the greatest satirists of all time, he was practically unknown until about 200 years after his death.
    Translation by R. Humphries.

    Well done !
This title brings to light the entertaining Satires of Juvenalis with a very good prologue and description of the time and place in which the poet wrote.
I have listened to this production several times and still pick up some hidden treasure from this writer.
    Cheers!
    A Must-Have
Makes modern satirists look like a bunch of half-wit milksops. Juvenals envenomed poetry is excellantly realised by the narrator, who sounds suitably disgusted at the depth and scope of Roman depravity. A classic that has surely grown in subversiveness.
