Fascinating facts and wonderful pictures
Yes, I was the one in the theater who cried out 'Oh no!' when it became apparent that Jack was not going to survive in "Titanic". So, having been a Titanic fanatic for years, I was very interested to read this book. And it did not disappoint! The facts are not only numerous but also very interesting. To see that the vast majority of those that lost their lives were the third class men and the engineers on the boat is not surprising due to the class divisions of those days, but also very sad.
To know the names of many of the crew members, their ages and their fate that night helps to make the whole event more real. The follies of that night including not slowing down, no binoculars in the crow's nest, not enough lifeboats, etc. made for a dramatic and tragic story and one that will never be forgotten.
This book helps to keep the memories alive of all those who survived and sadly did not survive the Titanic.
Titanic By the Numbers!
I happened to be a fan of statistics so I enjoyed reading this small book filled with numbers about the most famous boat since the Ark! My mother was born in 1912, the year the Titanic sank. She lived to see the hundredth year of it's tragic loss. It was the one news item that stayed with her throughout her entire life, she lived three months shy of 102 years.
Casual Introduction to Titanic
The author did an okay job in compiling the facts. With the passengers she did some jumping back and forth instead of being in regular order. In my opinion the passengers, just like on the Titanic, should have been separated from each other so that way as the introduction of the book mentioned you could see what it would have been like for that group.
There were a few new and unknown facts for me that I didn't know so I was happy for that. Otherwise the facts were for the most part those mentioned by every other book centered on the Titanic. Unlike other books it didn't really go in to the details of the décor, the actual passengers or what they did and a few other "life" aspects.
Since it is facts it didn't cover any of the interesting ways some of the people bravely lost their lives nor the stories of some of the survivors such as the brave stand of the Molly Brown the Unsinkable. The stories would have definitely added another dimension to the book but I can understand the need to keep it small.
All in all I would say it is a great start to a massive subject and for those who are interested keep reading. There are better books out there that have more stories and details but this is a good one to get some facts straight.
Thanks Ms. Asselin......

Love the fact that I even learned a lot from this book. I got it for a lesson for my children and found myself stunned at what I didn't know.
