John and his son Austin were treated to a VIP experience courtesy of AJ Ware of Petty GMS Motorsports at the Illinois 300. Austin and John were able to shadow AJ through his rigorous schedule as he navigates race day and makes all the important stuff happen! Appearances, meeting sponsors, looking out for the next sponsor and keeping Richard Petty on track. The guys were WORN OUT running a day in his shoes! It might by fun, but it's not all fun and games. AJ is the hardest working guy in NASCAR. The guys had a front row seat to all action and saw first hand, what incredible athletes the pit crew is made up of.  Richard Petty may be The King, but his team is a force to be reckoned with! Ride along as Jason OldeCarrGuy Carr and John CustomCarNerd Meyer talk vehicle safety features. Safety features make safer drivers, right? The list of safety features in new vehicles is a mile long. Innovations in automotive safety has saved countless lives with better braking systems, a multitude of air bags and strategically placed crumple zones. These features, and many others, provide drivers with a protective shell that makes them lose their connection with the road, paving the way for distracted driving at high speeds, trusting that the vehicle will pick up the slack and watch the road on their behalf.

Driving has always had an element of danger. The days of the horseless carriage brought innovative safety practices such as requiring the driver to exit the car and fire a shot gun into the air before proceeding through an intersection. Fast forward to 2021 and innovation in the auto industry has taken vehicle safety responsibility away from the driver. Don’t know how to parallel park. That’s ok. It has been delegated to self-parking features. Need to change lanes, backup or even stop without looking? No worries, the car will do it for you in a fraction of a second. A beeper, buzzer or flashing light will keep you posted on what’s happening on the road. Soundproof cabins, surround sound and comfy couch like seating will keep the racket of emergency vehicles from interrupting your morning commute as you drink your morning coffee.

The next time you get into your late model car, stop and think about what you don’t see, feel or hear. It may save your life.

The Get Out N Drive Podcast made the road trip to SEMA 2021! One of the highlights of the show was hosting having the guys host the Get Out N Drive Podcast from the Racing Junk booth. When you are hanging out in the Racing Junk booth, some cool folks stop by.  The  mics were set to ow and the car talk took off...FAST with Nitro Joe Morrison.

Joe Morrison is a 2nd generation drag racer, entrepreneur, and musician. This uncommon combination of skill sets, all of which he pursues with passion and determination to be the best he can be, creates a unique and holistic approach to motorsports. Whether it is driving, interacting with fans, or working to provide ROI to sponsors; Joe approaches each opportunity with professionalism, enthusiasm, and a desire to continue perfecting his craft. 

Joe’s love affair with driving started out with his first go-cart purchased with money he earned by cutting neighbors lawns at the tender age of 10. With some sage advice from his racing dad, Chuck; Joe soon began modifying the engine and adding “model airplane” fuel containing methanol and 20% nitro methane in order to improve performance and be like his racing heroes “Jungle” Jim Liberman, Don “The Snake” Prudhomme, and “Big Daddy” Don Garlits. By the time he drove his 1970 4 speed Chevelle at historic Raceway Park on opening day in 1988, it was no surprise that he went all the way to the final earning a runner up in his very first drag race. It was not until (of all days) September 11, 2001 at Atco Dragway that Joe earned his competition license with Doug Foley’s drag race school. After “renting” race cars for several events, in 2006 Joe became part owner and driver of a 7 second Fiat Altered for former Top Fuel and Comp Eliminator racer Mike Gillespie.  See more here
