It was eye-opening when a couple’s therapist told me and my husband many years ago that “money and intimacy issues are never about money and intimacy.”
There’s a lot behind it that couples typically miss, and that’s why a trained (and hopefully objectively impartial) party, such as a therapist or coach, NOT your mother or mother-in-law, can be so helpful in conflict resolution.
When we keep thinking that the problem is purely financial, we overlook the many other issues at play, such as control, habits, blame and victim mentality, power struggles, a sense of superiority and/or inferiority, abuse, etc.
In this episode, I talk about the idea that you might be trying to solve the wrong problem, and that’s why it feels like living in a hamster wheel. You work so hard to solve an issue, only to see it creeping back over and over again.
And you won’t want to miss my own drama with “bad hair as a teenager,” only to realize I was trying to solve the wrong problem… Turns out, when I realized what the problem really was, I actually had really beautiful hair!!
All jokes aside, I hope you enjoy this new episode of Get Out of the Rut.
