    NIV Old Testament
What did you like most about NIV Bible: the Law?
This is a beautifully read, clearly spoken audio version of the NIV Bible. Mr Suchet's voice clear and really rather lovely to listen to.
    Any additional comments?
This audio book is an absolute God send. I have searched and searched for a British audio version and could not find one. It is a great help in reading the law books of the Old Testament, which can be a bit tough to read through, but we must read, as they are all part of God's wonderful Word. Now, thanks to Hodder and Stoughton and Mr Suchet spending so much time in making this version, it will be so much easier and a joy to do so.
    The Voice of The Law
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I have in fact already done so. I find that the clear and pleasant narration is comfortable to listen to for just about anyone, there is no marked accent that some may find difficult to get along with and the voice is crisp with a clean sound.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It is difficult to define a favourite character, so I'll allow this section to remain mostly blank.
Which character as performed by David Suchet was your favourite?
Suchet's performance when narrating the voice of God is perfect. The shift in his voice at these moments is a subtle, but strong and caring note. It blends in with the overarching narration of the work well, without coming off as overstated or displaced, and I must say, it is the first time I've been given chills from hearing the curses placed on Adam, Eve and the Serpent in Genesis read out to me.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Many would say it is difficult to have an emotional reaction to the Law, given the content of some of it's books, however given that with this audiobook I've not only been able to read through it page by page, but also actively enjoy doing so. That is a testament in it's own right.
    Any additional comments?
This audiobook is worth listening to. Even if you do not own the NIV (I own the RSV) it makes a comfortable companion while reading through your own, the texts are similar enough that it is easy to keep track.I look forward wholeheartedly to hearing later installments.

  • Christians with Pervasive Issues Audiobook by Annie Brown

    Title: Christians with Pervasive Issues
    Author: Annie Brown
    Narrator: Jessica Geffen
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 14 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-17-13
    Publisher: Annie Brown
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Bibles
    Publisher's Summary:
It is the desire of Annie that Christians work through their pervasive issues before the end of life so that the transition between death and eternity can be smooth and not cluttered with unresolved issues. While this aspect is important, it is also vital that Christians are sure that they are doing all that they can to be strong and steady in order to help others as we get closer to the return of Christ.
It is going to be of vital importance in these last days that Christians know that they are rooted and grounded in the Word of God and that they are filled with the Holy Spirit. Why? Because there will be an influx of individuals coming into our midst who will challenge the very core of what Christians believe. To be able to stand firm and declare the truth, we must get prepared for this great harvest.
The Scripture has declared that God's Words are truth and they are life. In order to help others in the Body of Christ it is time for those who profess having the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to stop picking flowers by the wayside and get in a position to help others as we "watch" for the soon coming "King" to come and gather his jewels.

People need to deal with their sin!
Annie Brown received a "Word from the Lord" and decided she better sit down and put her thoughts on paper. She did this and we now have a short work from her regarding the message she felt that the Lord put on her heart.
She feels that people need to get their lives in order before one of two things happen, 1) before the Lord comes back, or 2) before they die.
I couldn't agree more with Annie. People need to confront the sin issues of their lives, be honest with their self evaluation and then ask the Lord for forgiveness and then ask others whom they have harmed for forgiveness.
There is nothing earth shaking in her work, nothing new that we haven't already know. BUT, she gives us a reminder that things need to be addressed and fixed. Take a look at the sin issues of your life and do business with the Lord on your knees.
    Thanks Annie for the reminder.
Stepping out of the victim role and into the compassionate life
Alabama author Annie Brown is a Medical Social Worker at Lakeside Hospice, Inc. in Pell City, Alabama. She attended the University of Alabama and was awarded a Masters degree in Social Work with a concentration on children, adolescents and families. Her special areas of expertise include working with Veterans with both PTSD and Traumatic Brian Injuries, being certified by the National Alliance for Mental Illness to teach Family to Family, and being a licensed minister in her church. It is the combination of all of these interests that impact the message of this book.
Those who have read Annie Brown before know what an open and honest counselor she is. He is concerned about the condition of the world today and how we all seem to find fault in others and place blame outside ourselves for poor relationships, violence in families and gangs and even wars. She moves for the general to the personal and encourages us to look within and find the issues that have pervaded our lives that we refuse to take responsibility for - either knowingly or unknowingly. Her message is one of accountability, that looking within and taking responsibility for the issues about which we feel submerged are in truth issues that can be healed.

Ongoing Struggle between Good and Evil
I never understood this part of the Bible so I tried to listen to it several times in its entirety. That did not really help either. This John of Patmos is a complex character with a lot of visions -- Seven seals, seven trumpets, a lamb with seven horns and seven eyes, 24 elders on 24 thrones. He even mentions my home town of Philadelphia where those who overcome will be made a pillar of the church. Maybe I should get busy on that.
I think all of this is describing the struggle between good and evil which has now occupied nearly 2000 years since our hero found himself on the island of Patmos. Unfortunately I think foolishness may have the upper hand right now but the tides are constantly changing. I never understood the authorship debate either. This John of Patmos must be the Apostle. I can't imagine some other guy named John could convince the church leaders to slip his writings into the Bible when they had so many other established and prolific authors.
All in all I think we should try to understand more of the Revelations but we will be better off with Paul and Peter, who by coincidence were martyred on this day as I write. I have a church bulletin with Paul depicted holding a book. While he was a man of words, he would not know what is a book. It would have been better to show him holding a Kindle or his laptop.
I don't mean to disparage John the Apostle, actually I find his accounts the best. That man knows how to capture dialogue and tell a story. Paul was a mean-spirited fellow (don't suggest you start letters by addressing the town people as stupid) but he knows how we should live, even though he himself never experienced some things like marriage. There is a lot to be said for keen observations and social criticism even 2000 years out.
    Two Stars
Check your Amazon title. It's not the book of RevelationS. It's the book of Revelation (singular.)
