Simply, elegant, actionable -- one degree can make all the difference.

Some criticisms of the book focus on the lack of need for it -- the authors address this on page 2 -- if you fully absorb and integrate the concept, you don't need to read any more. Just go out and execute it.

I like the book, and I like having a physical copy as a reminder, a refresher (I'm old-fashioned, I bookmark the pages that particularly resonate with me) and I like having something to physically share with someone else.

If your instinct tells you to check it out, do it.

A quick read and seems like very good info.

Good message that is simple and brief yet quite powerful when applied to sports. Decent examples of how a little more effort leads to significantly better results. I am applying this info to coaching a high school XC team so we will see if it is easily applied, followed, and heeded. I would have rated it a 4 star if there had been a bit more depth to the material

Great gift for a graduate or entrepreneur.

This is my go to gift book when I want to encourage someone. It is a super quick read and the analogy to boiling water is so simple yet impactful. I've lost count of how many times I have given this as a gift. Everyone who I have shared it with always loves it.

Inspirational

This book is required for me to read for my Food Science class this semester. I was not sure what it was going to be about, but the title intruiged me. As I got to reading, it truly inspired me to be a better student, girlfriend, and daughter to my sick mother. I will take away a lot from this book. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to go the extra mile, as it inspires and gives advice.

Quick. Thought provoking. Motivational. Loses steam toward the end

PROS: The premise of this book makes it great for motivational moments, and you can read it cover-to-cover in less than 20 minutes. I've used the intro in two organizational presentations and both times, it has spawned lots of discussion. The 212 concept is developed enough that it can be easily merged into a variety of industry areas and adapted for different audiences--professional, personal, religious, etc. CONS: I bought it after I scanned the first few pages, and was a little disappointed to find that the content gets a little watered down as the book progresses. It starts to become a collection of motivational sayings without any additional substance. One of the "chapters/sections" is only 2 pages long, and I kept thinking, "did they leave pages out?" OVERALL: The beginning of the book is powerful, and the concepts will stick, so it's well worth it's tiny pricetag!

A lot of great advice

I read a few reviews that nothing new was said but for someone that has never read a book like this there was a lot of new and inspiring ideas! I can't wait to see where it takes me. I will be listening again and pausing so I can do some of the exercises and sharing it. The best part is that if one of the ideas mentioned doesn't help there are a plethora of ideas to try next!

Direction and motivation to start change

Interesting perspectives to help you find direction in your life. There were some platitudes, but still worth listening to. The narration was understandable but flat. Would give three and a half stars if I could.

This is what has become to me typical Max Lucado writing. I went back to certain chapters that really spoke to me. Very good, even tho I believe differently in certain doctrinal points.

Not what I thought

The book contains mostly depressing stories that end in bad outcomes. I'm not exactly sure how this book would benefit anyone during a hard time as the outcomes of the stories contained in the book are usually horrific. I too believe that God is in all matters good and bad and that he's the answer always. However, these stories are far less than useful.

yes, but not on this topic and I would do a little research first. Seemed like every story involved a father and his baby infant, a mother and her children, a husband and his wife, for those of us that are single, alone, and without children, this book does not really apply. I found myself getting sad at how much i missed and wanted these things.

Attention Ladies!

A really heavy bias of stories from women. Narrated by a lady too so I feel as though the title should be altered to alert the listener as to the content. That said I listened to it all (double speed worked well for me) and can definitely recommend it for women but it's not one I'll be listening to again.

Exceptional documentary

I teach an undergraduate course, BA223, Principles of Leadership, and introduced this book, Paul Farmer and the Partner's in Health team / task force to my students. This type of civic engagement, grass roots, community based leadership is humanity driven and surpasses all egocentric government systems and politically strangulated agencies, in their activism and critical thinking. Humanity would implode if NGOs like Partner's in Health did not exist.

Resist the Impoverishment of Aspiration

"To Repair the World" is a collection of calls-to-action Paul Farmer has delivered to medical schools around the country.

Farmer's speeches were designed to inspire the next generation of doctors and health care activists but they will put a fire under anyone's pants.

In his words, "Resist the impoverishment of aspiration."

The man has remarkable rhetorical gifts, but the power of Farmer's speech comes from the compassion and empathy hes gained from his experience working in communities without adequate health care.

In the introduction, President Bill Clinton writes of learning about Paul Farmer in a New Yorker profile and calling his daughter Chelsea to ask if she knew of him.

Duh, Dad.

Chelsea told her father that Farmer is "our generation's Albert Schweizer." Good comparison. Schweizer's "reverence for life" translates into Farmer's assertion that health care should be seen as a human right that all deserve care.

Farmer has an evidence-based conviction: poverty and disease are solvable problems. Faced with a mountain of incalcitrance, you don't grab a pick ax and start chipping away you invent a new way to bring it all down.

Excellent insights from a man repairing the world

To Repair the World is an excellent collection of Paul Farmer's speeches, most of which were given at university commencements. Paul Farmer has dedicated his life to repairing the world, resolving inequality, and healing the sick no matter what their situation. He ignores common limitations, and in fact, is openly frustrated by arguments around whether care is "worth it" or "cost effective." These speeches share some of his insights and experiences. Paul Farmer deeply cares about humanity--both in the general sense and the very personal sense.
