Publisher's Summary:
Before we can fix our economic problems, we must first diagnose what is causing them.
Many of our political and intellectual leaders call for more government intervention to fix the economy. They tell us that it creates jobs, corrects "market failures", and boosts economic growth. And they insist that we need such intervention to help the poor, to coddle the consumer, and to protect the worker.
But they're dead wrong. Government intervention is not the solution to our economic problems; it's the cause.
Bankrupting America: How Government Intervention Is Wrecking the Economy analyzes all the major categories of government intervention in the economy - from taxes, deficits, antitrust, and price controls to regulation, protectionism, central banking, and wealth redistribution.
In this book, you'll find out:
Backed by numerous academic studies and sound economic logic, the conclusion is incontestable: Government intervention simply doesn't work. It stifles saving, investment, and capital accumulation. All of this translates to higher unemployment, higher consumer prices, and lower economic growth. To fix the American economy, we need much less government intervention, not more.
Members Reviews:
THE PERFECT PRIMER!
I am learned in the Austrian School of Economics and am pleased to be able to review this ebook. It is beautifully and succinctly written, and it is a masterful overview of the things every American should know about how the federal government impedes and even harms our economy.
It is reminiscent of Frederic Bastiat's classic book, THE ECONOMICS OF FREEDOM: WHAT YOUR PROFESSORS WON'T TELL YOU...which is one of my all-time favorite economic primers.
It also is pleasantly reminiscent of Henry Hazlitt's ECONOMICS IN ONE LESSON which is a must read for the intelligent layman about the basic truths of economics.
Concerned Americans need to know exactly how our economy works, as well as what does not work and why.
BANKRUPTING AMERICA perfectly compliments the above classics by bringing classical concepts into today's vernacular in an easy to understand (and compelling) way.
I would also add that in the hands of an able teacher, this is the perfect economic primer for advanced placement high school students and also home-schooling parents. It is the best and most credible entry into Milton Friedman style economics that I have yet read, without being the least bit overwhelming.
I recommend it highly!
Review
Nothing new to offer. This book is a reiteration of well worn Fox TV reasons for capitalistic approaches to everything..
As another reader comments this is basically Fox News crap. Most importantly
So unfettered capitalism is the answer to America's problems! Give me a break. As another reader comments this is basically Fox News crap. Most importantly, if you read this propaganda, you should make the effort to read other perspectives. Read about what lack of regulation, or lack of enforcing regulations has resulted in. I would point to the environment and the big pharma for starters. Also, research exactly what brought about the 2008 crisis. Despite what Mr. Dahlen would have you believe, these are big, complicated problems to which there is not a simple answer.
Brilliant
Brilliant. Changed the entire way I look at our monetary policy. Presented views I was not familiar with. Hooked me. Beautifully, clearly written.
