CasanovaDon JuanCharlie McCarthy? Ventriloquist Edgar Bergen achieved stardom playing both straight man and comedian with his wooden alter ego Charlie McCarthy. The Charlie McCarthy Show was one of radio's top-rated shows for nearly two decades. Button down and bow-tied, the gentlemanly Bergen would never behave improperly with a lady. Charlie, on the other hand, is frisky, flirtatious, and brave enough to bring his game to guests Bette Davis and Hedy Lamarr, among others. His love of the ladies leads him to many an entertaining exchange. Joined by a bevy of beauties (including Lana Turner, Judy Garland, Dorothy Lamour and more) and a bunch of boys (including Abbott and Costello, W. C. Fields, and Mickey Rooney), Edgar Bergen and his provocative puppet star in 16 digitally restored and remastered episodes.

You can't go wrong with Bergen and McCarthy!
I've always been a big fan. I was especially glad that it included some hour long episodes.
    This recoding is a lie.
Don't buy this audio. This is audio is supposed to have Bergen and McCarthy on it. It doesn't, what it has on it is Another radio show on it. Bergen and McCarthy are only on the last 2 hours of Nine hours that are on the audio. Rip off.

    Publisher's Summary:
A hilarious collection of episodes from the beloved radioshow The Great Gildersleeve.
Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve was a popular character, appearing each week on the Fibber McGee & Molly radio show. On August 31, 1941, Gildersleeve landed his own situation comedy show, The Great Gildersleeve, which was radios first spin-off. Gildersleeve moved from the town of Wistful Vista to Summerfield, where he oversaw his late brother-in-laws estate and took on the rearing of his orphaned niece and nephew, Marjorie (originally played by Lurene Tuttle and followed by Louise Erickson and Mary Lee Robb) and Leroy Forester (Walter Tetley). The household also included a cook named Birdie.
The Great Gildersleeve was the first show to be centered on a single parent balancing raising children, work, and a social life, accomplished with taste and genuine wit, often at the expense of Gildersleeves slightly understated pomposity. Radio veteran Hal Peary originated the role of Gildersleeve but left the series at the height of its popularity in 1950, giving way to well-known character actor Willard Waterman. Waterman continued in the radio role until 1957 and also played Gildersleeve in a television version syndicated in 1955.
Episodes include: "Leroys Old Car", "Friendly to Bullard", "Meets Paula Winthrop", "Marjorie as Secretary", "Jolly Boys Speak Candidly", "Leroy Stays with Hooker", "Anniversary of First Date", "Babs Frustrates Romance", "Lost Boy on Halloween", "Couple Buying a Lot", "Oak Tree Problem", and "Inviting Guests for Thanksgiving".

    Gotta love Gildersleeve!
Gotta love Gildersleeve! I have a pretty big collection of old time radio and these are one of my favorites. Just a note to true Gildy fans that these are with Waterman and take place later in the series....After Marjorie and Bronco have kids.

    Pure Entertainment
Where does Our Miss Brooks: Volume Two rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
    Top 10.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It's a tie between Miss Brooks and Mr. Boyton. Both characters are well acted and Eve Arden seems to have a natural fit into her character.
Have you listened to any of Eve Ardens other performances before? How does this one compare?
    No.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I listen to these episodes at night or put them on in the background when I am working.
    Any additional comments?
They just don't make quality entertainment like this anymore.
Our MIss Brooks has still got it!
If you could sum up Our Miss Brooks: Volume Two in three words, what would they be?
    Funny. Cute, Charming.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Our Miss Brooks: Volume Two?
All of the characters are great. Love all the quirky plots and the old timey sense of humor.
    poor quality
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I remember the series on television and wanted to reconnect with the memories. The sound quality with this series is horrible I was only able to listen to just a few minutes. I was unable to understand much of what was said
