Shannon Seymour is the founding Director of The Wellness Centre, Ltd. and licensed with the Council for Professions Allied with Medicine (CPAM) of the Health Practice Commission in the Cayman Islands. She earned a Bachelor’s degree (Honours) in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Regina, in Canada. While pursuing her studies Shannon became the first ever Canadian recipient of the prestigious graduate student grant from the American Psychological Association’s Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues. Shannon has a passion for community and frequently advocates for the rights of individuals and families living with mental illness and special needs. She is a member of the Canadian Psychological Association and a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Shannon’s clinical career has spanned 20 years across Canada and the Cayman Islands, where she has worked for organizations such as Family Services Canada, Health Services Canada, and the Cayman Islands Government and in 2004 opened the doors to The Wellness Centre, Ltd.

Shannon’s clinical emphasis is in the area of psychological assessment and solution focused clinical interventions with adults and children. The success of The Wellness Centre can be clearly seen as a reflection of Shannon’s anchoring belief that all individuals possess the power within to make positive changes not only in their own lives, but also in the lives of their families, in their places of work, and in their communities. Shannon is extremely proud of The Wellness Centre’s growth and more importantly the impact its services and programmes are having in the lives of the people of the Cayman Islands.

Jackie Can has lived an extraordinary life. Married at the tender age of 18 to the man of her dreams – this May would mark her 25th Anniversary. She was offered the world and nothing was denied her. She has raised two beautiful children who are now adults. She has travelled the globe and has experienced some of the finest life has to offer.

Two years ago Jackie’s world came crumbling down. The walls that had been built fell and Jackie began to realise that this freedom she had lived in was her captivity. Her marriage was abusive, controlling and was riddled with infidelity. Her story is harrowing and the truth that she now lives is true freedom.

Joseph Wakim OAM is an independent writer on human rights issues. While completing his Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Melbourne, he became one of the original volunteer street workers in the Open Family Foundation in 1984. He then established a similar street work project for homeless youth in Adelaide and is known for exposing child prostitution in the church city.
He was a social worker for the Arabic-speaking community at the time of the first Gulf War in 1991. After conducting hundreds of media interviews and writing letters to the editor, Joseph was invited to write opinion columns. He has been a prolific writer ever since and his body of work is highlighted on this site.
His anti-racism campaigns  and initaitives earned the Commonwealth Heads of Government Violence Prevention Award in 1996.
As a widowed father of three children, his writing is enriched by his personal experience with the big questions in life. His second book 'What my Daughters Taught Me' is a story of triumph and how the human spirit stays strong when life goes wrong. His story deals with the need for men to be ‘emancipated’ by being nurtured to be nurturers. It links with current debates about domestic violence and our male definition of strength. It also argues that it is the quality of the parenting, not the gender, that matters most. Gender differences are exaggerated and exploited, resulting in men missing out on so much.
His book has been described as a ‘brilliantly honest memoir, hilariously so’, The book not only deals candidly with father-daughter relationships but additionally with resilience, hope, faith, masculinity, strength, grief and the ‘humour hormone’.

Sy Rogers:

Sy’s unique life and 3 decades of ministry have inspired and encouraged audiences from London’s Royal Albert Hall to many of the world’s most influential pulpits. Regarded as a gifted communicator, award-winning talk show host, recording artist, and pastoral care specialist, Sy is a leading voice regarding sexuality, cultural themes and God’s character. Married since 1982, Sy and his family have lived in Singapore, the USA and New Zealand. Currently based in New Zealand, much of Sy’s ministry continues outside of North America.

Cindy Russell is an Instigator of Change. Her goal and passion to help parents and children EXPAND, EXPLORE and EXPERIENCE the full magnificence of who they really are.  Her passion for this is personal, at a very young age she realised that adults couldn’t help her understand who she was. It was then when she developed severe anxiety that became a part of her every day until 1996 when I stumbled upon a kinesiologist. From that point on, she hasn't experienced anxiety since.

Now a practitioner and trainer in kinesiology, Life Coaching and Neuro Linguistic Programming and for the last 17 years, she has worked with kids and adults, witnessing what happens when people of all ages unlock their inner resources and recognise their full magnificence.

Cindy believes that if we all follow our instinct and intuition, trust ourselves a little more, believe in ourselves, love ourselves, life will be different. Imagine living a life like that yourself and your children as well.

Andrew Palmer – NSW Director of Global Interaction – the mission arm of the Baptist Church. His current role has him lecturing in New Testament and Theology at Morling College with the Plunge Program alongside training, supervising, equipping and sending cross-cultural specialists into some of the least reached people groups on the planet and helping churches develop cross-cultural understanding in their own context and abroad. Andrew received his MA exploring the theme of Reaching and Discipling Gen Y. 

Rachel Mills – Rachel dreams of a living in a world where every human being thrives. Her working life focuses on mobilizing students to tackle global injustice. Rachel has been part of the World Vision Australia team for 5 years. She has presented on Global Poverty issues to over 100,000 students in over 80 schools in regional areas. Rachel also runs Circle Movement alongside co-founders Kristy Fox and Adelle Laing. Circle Movement engages ordinary people in social justice issues. Rachel has completed a Bachelor of Social Science (International Relations) as well as a Fellowship at the School for Social Entrepreneurs.

Tonight we have the honor of hosting Jessica Le Clerc a silver lining storyteller who is artistically deliberate in crafting deep connections that celebrate human value. She has most recently been recognised as a finalist in the 2015 Archibald Prize. Jessica’s subject for this esteemed prize is artist David Hart. The son of world-renowned artist Pro Hart, he was raised in Broken Hill in outback NSW. He has two galleries on the Sunshine Coast where he now lives with his wife and children.

“The Hart family history and David’s personal story have always fascinated me,” says Jessica Le Clerc. “They are from a small farming community like myself and grew up on the land. Yet they still encouraged art and expression in way that has affected our country deeply.”

“When I sat with David for the first time and listened, I didn’t imagine that his story would be so full of ‘real life’. I wanted to do justice to that in the portrait. The landscape on his back is still growing, still being told. A really spectacular landscape is organic, messy and changing – much like our own stories.”

“I also wanted to acknowledge the legacy of his father Pro. The focus of the portrait is where David is looking. He stands amongst a swarm of dragonflies (his father’s famous symbol). They are a part of the path he will always wander but they’re not affecting his vision.”
