That constant voice in your head can sound like “motivation”, but it often turns into a stream of criticism that drains your confidence and ramps up anxiety. We talk candidly about the “chitter chatter” many of us live with, why it can feel non-stop, and how a single harsh thought can set off a whole body stress response. As therapists, we also share a simple intervention you can use in the moment: name the nasty chatter and tell it, directly, to stop. The quiet that follows can be the start of a different relationship with your mind.
From there, we get into self-forgiveness and why it matters for stress management and emotional wellbeing. Regret and rumination keep you stuck replaying arguments, mistakes, and “should have” moments, even when you cannot change the past. We explore why being gentler with yourself is not indulgent, it is practical. When you stop attacking yourself for being human, you free up energy to make better choices today, not perfect choices, just better ones.
We also look at where this inner critic comes from: family habits, cultural banter that lands like a bruise, and a world that teaches productivity but rarely teaches emotional intelligence. We share ways to tune into what you are truly feeling, how to spot emotions in your body, and how small mindful routines can help, including five minutes a day of kindness, choosing silence, and doing simple repetitive tasks that calm the mind. If you want anxiety relief tools, self-compassion practices, and a kinder inner voice you can actually believe, press play, then subscribe, share the episode, and leave a review. What is one kind sentence you want to hear in your own head today?

We talk about the emotions we block without realising and how they can surface later as anxiety, anger, numbness or even physical symptoms. We share personal childhood stories to show how healing starts when we acknowledge what happened and allow ourselves to feel safely.
• emotions we often repress, including anger, sadness, frustration, grief and guilt
• how repressed feelings differ from consciously suppressing emotions to cope
• a childhood separation that shaped our grief and coping styles
• why the body releases emotion during massage and touch
• how feeling unsafe at home can become adult patterns and limiting beliefs
• practical ways to process emotions, including therapy, books and inner child work
• why naming feelings helps children build emotional health

You can be heartbroken and still be alive to the day around you, and that tension is exactly where healing starts. We’re two therapist sisters, and we talk candidly about stress, anxiety, and the quiet habit many of us slip into when life hurts: trying to fast-forward our own days. When your mind is locked on what’s wrong, it can feel impossible to notice anything good, but we explore how attention can be trained, gently and realistically, towards gratitude and appreciation without pretending suffering is not real.
One of us shares the shock of sudden bereavement after 42 years of marriage, including the first impulse to wish the weeks away and the slow return of steadier ground: remembering love, letting laughter sit beside tears, and asking the hard question, “If today were my last day, would I want to spend it wishing it away?” We also talk about how grief shows up in many forms, from divorce to job loss to medical procedures, and why people often underestimate the emotional impact of “routine” events.
We break down practical coping strategies for anxiety relief and grief support: catching unhelpful thought patterns, using the simple check “is this helpful to me?”, and building tiny anchors of normality through self-care routines. We also share how mindfulness in nature, sunlight, flowers, the moon, can soothe the nervous system, and why connection matters when loneliness feels desolating. If this conversation helps, subscribe, share it with someone who needs it, and leave us a review so more people can find the support.

“That’s not true” can be the spark for anxiety, arguments, and weeks of silent resentment. We take a different approach: truth is often your personal version of what you saw, heard, and felt, and someone else can experience the same moment in a completely different way. Once you stop treating truth like a verdict, you can start using it as a tool for self-awareness and calmer communication.
We talk about why so many of us hide what feels true, especially when we are people pleasing or trying to fit in. From childhood friendship pressure to adult social expectations, it is easy to override your gut instinct and say yes when you mean no. We share practical ways to pause, reflect, and re-check what “rings true”, including using both instinct and reason so your boundaries feel steady rather than reactive.
Family dynamics come up too: what happens when parents project dreams on to their children, or when we get stuck judging entire generations as if everyone fits in the same box. We explore how flexibility keeps you moving forwards, how curiosity can soften conflict in relationships, and how learning to listen to another person’s truth can make your world feel bigger, kinder, and less tense.
If this resonates, subscribe for more anxiety relief tools, share the episode with someone who needs it, and leave us a review. What’s your truth right now, and where do you need to honour it more?

We unpack self-sabotage as the sneaky moment we block our own progress right when something good is about to happen. We share real-life examples from dating, work, confidence, and even getting a pet, then map out practical ways to spot the pattern and stop it.
• defining self-sabotage and why it often feels unconscious
• common signs like cancelling plans, procrastinating, picking fights, and messing up key moments
• links with low self-esteem, insecure attachment, fear of getting hurt, and fear of the unknown
• everyday examples across relationships, career promotions, business ideas, body image, gym anxiety, and personal style
• how perfectionism can trigger avoidance when it cannot be 100%
• making change manageable by focusing on one step rather than the whole future
• building awareness by reflecting, writing patterns down, and challenging negative self-talk
• noticing how friends and workplace groups can pull you back when you try to evolve
• remembering you cannot stay stuck just to avoid upsetting other people

We explore why kindness is not just a moral ideal but a practical way to calm anxiety by boosting control, connection, and confidence. We unpack the “helper’s high”, share real life examples where kindness helps and where it does not get returned, and end with a reminder to bring the same kindness to our own inner voice.
• kindness as a simple anxiety relief hack
• the helper’s high and how reward centres in the brain respond to giving
• why feeling in control reduces anxiety
• being extra kind before stressful moments like public speaking
• social interaction with strangers as a dopamine boost
• the post pandemic “invisible mask” and rebuilding everyday connection
• what happens when your kindness is met with curtness
• kindness at work including isolated or mundane jobs
• stress in healthcare roles and the ripple effect of small humane gestures
• being kind to yourself through kinder self-talk and self-esteem

We are taking a summer break so we are digging into our previous archives and today we share the importance of hugs.
We count fruit and veg like it’s medicine, yet we ignore one of the simplest forms of human care: touch. We’re asking a cheeky question with a serious point behind it: what would change if you aimed for five hugs a day? Not just romantic hugs either, but safe, gentle, respectful touch that reminds your body you’re not on your own, from a proper cuddle with family to a reassuring hand on the arm when you’re struggling.
We talk about why physical touch matters for stress relief and emotional regulation, and how the pandemic made so many of us realise what we’d been missing. From babies thriving with skin to skin contact to older children who still quietly look for closeness, we unpack the signs people give when they want comfort, and how easy it is to miss them when life is busy and everyone’s on a separate device. We also share the idea of longer “healing hugs”, and why letting the other person choose when a hug ends can feel profoundly calming.
Consent and boundaries are a big part of this conversation. Not everyone enjoys touch, and that has to be respected, whether it’s personal preference or neurodivergence. We also touch on the tricky balance in schools and childcare between safeguarding and giving young children the comfort they need. If you’re feeling lonely or you live alone, we share a simple self soothing technique you can do anywhere, based on a havening style self hug.
If this sparks something for you, listen, share it with a friend who needs a bit of warmth, and subscribe for more. After you’ve listened, tell us in the comments: are you going to try five hugs a day?

We are taking a summer break so we are sharing one of our most listened to episodes. Here we explore what “living a rich life” really means when you are not wealthy, and why the feeling of richness often comes from attention, gratitude and small choices. We share stories from growing up poor, the money lessons we still carry, and practical ways to spend with more meaning and less anxiety.
• defining “rich” as a feeling rather than a number
• enjoying small luxuries without needing a high income
• childhood memories of feeling rich through time, imagination and family rituals
• creating rich experiences on a budget through picnics, travel hacks and shared moments
• upcycling, reusing and making ordinary things feel special
• learning to notice beauty, stillness and the “moon moment” in daily life
• choosing one quality item that lifts everyday living
• avoiding the lack mindset, social comparison and overspending on low-value habits
• checking spending by asking how it truly makes us feel afterwards
• remembering laughter, love and gratitude as core “wealth”

We are taking a short summer break and will be back in September. We will be uploading some re-runs and some of our classic episodes.
Sleep does not respond well to pressure, and a busy mind can turn bedtime into a struggle. We are the Anxiety Relief Sisters formerly also known as The English Sisters, and we guide you through a sleep meditation designed to help your body soften, your breathing slow, and your thoughts pass by without a fight. You will hear steady, comforting language that supports deep relaxation, especially if stress or anxiety has been keeping you alert at night.
We start with a simple safety reminder, then invite you to settle in, adjust your position, and notice tension releasing from the body. From there we explore the idea that there is always a part of you quietly taking care of you: the part that can slow the heart, ease the muscles, and guide you towards rest. That trust becomes the foundation for everything that follows, turning sleep from something you chase into something you allow.
Next, we introduce two powerful visualisation tools for better sleep. The first is an “inner hug”, a warm image of comfort from the inside out that you can return to whenever you need it. The second is a staircase journey, step by step into calm, leading to a door or gate that opens into a safe place of your choosing. We weave in gentle nature imagery, including sun and clouds, to support a dreamlike state and a sense of renewal.
If you are building a healthier bedtime routine, looking for guided sleep hypnosis style relaxation, or simply want a peaceful way to unwind, press play and let us lead the way. Subscribe, share this with someone who needs rest, and leave a review so more listeners can find a calmer night.

Your clothes are doing more work than you think. They are not just fabric and colour; they are signals, a kind of body language, and a daily lever you can pull to change how you feel in your own skin. We talk about why we started dressing alike, how a consistent look can create a clear identity, and why that “we’re acting as one” feeling can even help clients feel held and supported.
From there, we widen the lens to the psychology of clothing, accessories, and self-expression. Rings, piercings, tattoos, shoes, and styling choices can reflect personality, mood, and belonging, whether you mean them to or not. We also get real about the moments when you stop making the effort: when you’re busy, when you’ve got kids, when your lifestyle is full on, or when you feel vulnerable and a bit down. That is often the exact moment when getting dressed with intention becomes a form of self-care rather than vanity.
We dig into the debate about who we are dressing for and why it matters. Yes, other people notice, and social settings come with expectations, but we keep coming back to one thing: when you dress to impress yourself, your posture changes, your voice shifts, and you show up differently. Feeling right for the occasion helps you stay in the room, stay in the conversation, and stay confident. We also share practical examples like shoes at a posh wedding, the “jacket effect”, and a simple experiment you can try today to see how quickly clothing can change your mindset.
If this sparks something, subscribe, share it with a friend who’s been feeling flat, and leave us a review. What is one item you put on that instantly makes you feel more confident?
