  • Lymphatics, Glymphatics and Your Brain with Dr. Perry Nickelston (Eps. 13)

Dr. Perry Nickelston shares his journey from chiropractic, to illness, to addressing the immune system to recover from autoimmunity via the lymphatic system. He looks beyond the musculoskeletal system into the whole body as a whole system.

"No system in the body ever works alone. They never get injured alone. They never heal alone. There's no such thing as an isolated injury in the body. There's no such thing as isolated healing. It's all or nothing until lights out. What that means is everything matters. When it comes to healing recovery from pain and inflammation."

Perry Nickelston, DC aka ‘The Lymph Doc’ is a Chiropractic Physician with a primary focus on treating chronic pain and inflammation via the lymphatic and vascular systems. Owner of Stop Chasing Pain, LLC. International speaker and educator of the self care MOJO series. Lymphatic Mojo, Blood Flow Mojo, Tongue Mojo, Glymphatic Mojo, Visceral Mojo, Vagus Nerve Mojo, Primal Movement Mojo.

He is also the author of the upcoming book, Stop Chasing Pain: A Vital Guide to Healing Your Body, Moving Well, and Gaining Control of Your Life.

He is a 1997 graduate of Palmer Chiropractic University and a master fitness trainer with over 25 years of experience in the health industry.

  • Unveiling My Personal History, My Back Story (Eps. 12)

In this podcast, I share my story and why I do what I do.

We go through my timeline identifying triggers and mediators that likely contributed to the development of Multiple Sclerosis, a diagnosis I received in 2006.

When seeking root causes for current symptoms or dis-ease, this type of storytelling and evidence-gathering is invaluable.

Hopefully, my storytelling encourages you to look at your own story.

If you are seeking optimal wellness or have your own concerns that you are trying to address, I encourage a deep dive into your own history.

In the second half of the podcast, we visit Apollo Health, go through a few concerning stats, and then look closely at the Bredesen Seven.

If you want help navigating your own brain-healing or brain-optimization journey, you are not alone.

  • From Surviving to Thriving: A Healing Journey with Carrie Baquie (Eps. 7)

This conversation, From Surviving to Thriving: A Healing Journey with Carrie Baquie is a heartfelt and authentic sharing of the fear and devastation that occurred following an early Alzheimer's diagnosis.

Ultimately the journey has a happy ending as Carrie recovers from Lyme, mold toxicity, and a suspected stroke.

We discuss the difference between subjective cognitive decline (when you know something is off but no one else notices it yet) and objective cognitive decline (when you can no longer hide it and it shows up in testing).

If you are experiencing subjective cognitive decline, the time to intervene is now, the earlier the better. Symptom reversal is typically possible when the "bad" (i.e. infection and toxins) are taken away and the "good" (i.e. optimal nutrition, sleep, exercise, etc.) are added in.

Please reach out to Laurel Brennan for a free consultation to discuss next steps.

  • Nutritional Approaches for Hypothyroidism with Angela Taylor (Eps. 5)

    2:38 Facts & Figures

1 in 8 women will develop a thyroid disorder, 20 million American have some form of thyroid condition, 95% of time thyroid nodules are benign, women are 5-8 x more likely to develop a thyroid disorder than men

    3:50 Root Causes

Iodine deficiency is the main cause, Hashimoto's (autoimmune) is common when iodine is adequate, iatrogenic (eg. radiation, medication)

6:08 Diagnosis elevated TSH, low T4 sub-clinical TSH (call for T4), eventually T4 drops and TSH increases autoimmune anti-body labs ideally run complete thyroid labs - TSH, T4, and antibody labs

    11:25 Basics

Start climbing the ladder at the bottom! Hydration, food intake, data of food intake, bowel movements, supplements, sleep, movement, labs13:53 Thyroid NutrientsIron, iodine, tyrosine, zinc, selenium, vitamins E, B2, B3, B6, C & D

Ferritin - women feel best when around 90 ng/mL

Iodine - in iodized salt but may not be in sea salt, can be diluted and sprayed on skin (and on dense breasts)

22:49 What can inhibit synthesis of T4?stress, infection, trauma, fluoride, certain medications, radiation, toxins, pesticides, mercury, cadmium, leadautoimmune disease (celiac)

27:00 Active form is T3 (so T4 must be converted into T3) - need selenium and zincOnly eat 1-2 Brazil nuts daily (not more) for selenium Zinc needs to be balanced with copper (needed to carry iron in blood)28:55 Lifestyle factors that can mess up the conversion of T3RT3 sits in receptor and blocks T3stress, trauma, low-calorie diet, inflammation, toxins, infections, certain medications, liver/kidney dysfunction31:20 May need thyroid support if on a keto diet

34:24 Get T3 into the cell (cellular sensitivity)vitamin A, zinc and exercise

34:50 optimizing liver and kidney function - AST/ALT (ideally below 20 IU/L) and eGFR (over 60 mL/min/1.73m2, higher is better) gluten-free diet and alcohol reduction or abstinence is beneficial

40:40 Food that may antogonize thyroid activity

Cynogenic glycosides: linseed, sweet potato, fava bean, lima bean, sorghum - may compete with iodine

Glucosinolates - cruciferous - cabbage, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, canola, radish, arugula (consume when cooked) - may compete with iodine uptake

Flavonoids - soy and millet - adequate iron and selenium help, may impair TPO activity
