amateur teaching

if you want to learn, i recommend plimsleur course, this is not a good system for learning to much rambling in English, bad jokes, not enough repetition, force to many new words in a lesson,not enough time spent on the breakdown sentence structure , just makes you feel overwhelmed and not wanting to learn the language, plus the voices are really annoying. i think these are students that created this for a college credit.

Wonderful supplemental material for people who really want to learn German! I was looking for some really good practice material to help keep my mind on German during our spring hiatus, and this series is just the thing. Each audio magazine comes with a lot more material than is advertised on the cover. There are pieces on tourist spots in Germany, news from the German-speaking lands, and a short essay about an aspect of German culture , sometimes as experienced by a person new to Germany, sometimes as a feature about a lesser-known story from German History. In this issue, the German obsession with recycling and the Pan-European picnic are covered. Grammar and pronunciation points are covered in German. Also included is a pdf booklet that usually runs to about 28 pages of material. material is mostly geared towards advanced beginner (A2) to Intermediate (B) levels, though all levels should be able to get something out of it.

Cut and paste

The author spends less than 1% of the book talking about Swedish. It's nearly all about a system of creating memory palaces, which he even admits doesn't necessarily help him remember the meaning of the word, just the word itself. I found that creating just one memory palace left me with one word that I remembered along with the meaning. I'd much rather spend the time coming up with mnemonics that help me remember both the word AND the meaning -- i.e. one I saw about pamplemousse, being a grapefruit in French -- just think of a mouse with a grapefruit pimple on its face. I haven't looked at Metivier's other books for memorizing vocabulary, but I would guess that he's just replaced "Swedish" in the text with "Greek," "Russian," and so forth.
