Short but hot

This is a review of the audio version.

I listened to this story in one sitting and it had me going from the first sex scene to the end of the story. The narrator does a great reading of the sex scenes. The low and mysterious voice makes the story tense and hot. Overall, the story is short and straight to the point, but I wish it was longer. Nonetheless, I enjoyed this story and listened to it twice before writing this review. If there was an extension to this story, I'd listen to it!

Now I'm hooked!

This was my second Vina Jackson book and I admit it did take some time to get into. I noticed with this volume and with my first, "Mistress of Night and Dawn," that it took me a while to get into it, but once I did I was not disappointed - again.

If one is looking for F.S.O.G.-type of sex you will be a bit disappointed. The story is put together WAY better than that and the sex is much more explicit, more raw. The interactions between the characters are much smoother (a compliment worth repeating from my review of "Mistress...") and I liked the way Andrei and Aurelia were brought back in to the story and how Summer was made a part of the Ball.

The duo writing under the pseudonym of Vina Jackson did a great job of Summer dealing with the death of her beloved Dominick and moving on with her life. I loved the symbolism of playing naked in the desert and burying the locket in the sand in the spot where she played. (Although she would probably have been arrested for indecent exposure walking back to the hotel in the buff in this part of the world, but I'm one who can suspend belief for a few hundred pages.)

I'm glad I got to know Jackson's books via the Vine Program here on Amazon. I can safely say I am hooked! - Donna Di Giacomo

She was a pretty good character

Summer and Dominique had been together for three years. She played the violin. Dominique had been dead for two months. Dominique and her music were her sanity. Dominique died Christmas eve. Summer came home to find him dead in his study. Summer was a submissive. Summer barely functioned for two months. Then her friend Lauralynn came over and told her she needed her to play for her lover Vigo, who was a rock star. She had played rock before on her violin.

Summer was lost without Dominique but she did continue to change. She was sometimes destructive to herself, indecisive but she does eventually grow. She was a pretty good character, as were the rest in this story.

The plot and overall story were pretty good. I would recommend as this was a story about change and finding a new life, but some parts were disturbing.

I look forward to reading more books by this author

I had a hard time getting into this book and felt a disconnect the entire time. The sex scenes were often and HOT but just could never really connect with Summer.

Summer is at a complete loss when Dominik passes away, she becomes a shell of herself until she finally meets a mysterious man that takes her to a club where he and a dozen of his friends proceed to have sex with her. It is completely consensual and it reminds her of how things were when Dominik was alive.

Pretty good

The author did a good job writing this story with it being so short. I had gotten this book a while back and just now had the time to check it out so I really wasn't sure what to expect. It is very mild if you can even call it bdsm, but I did enjoy it. It is not a book that I would read more than one time, but I don't regret reading it. If you like reading about a little spanking and some hand tying without so much severity then you may enjoy this book.

Was more of an essay than a book

You could read the same type of story at various sites on the internet. I thought the book would be longer and involve more than a one time experience. The length of books would be better to review if you could see that through amazon. You only get to review the first page or two.

Sophisticated Smut

What did you love best about Licking Lollipops?

I enjoyed that there was a real plot and that the narrator was not flimsy; she had substance and very real reactions to things.

What other book might you compare Licking Lollipops to and why?

I honestly do not have an answer-- I am familiar with 50 Shades but I would not compare them at all, as the characters in this book have depth.

Which character as performed by Marami Hung and Leon Dollet was your favorite?

The narrator was great, Mirami really captured the range of reactions and emotions in her voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did not have an extreme reaction, but the twist at the end was unexpected and did leave me on the edge of my seat.

I would recommend this book for anybody who is interested in naughtier books, and who has an appreciation of plot and characters with layers.

Much more than just kinky roleplay sex fantasies

If you could sum up Licking Lollipops in three words, what would they be?

Arousing. Engrossing. Eye-opening.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Licking Lollipops?

Gosh, so much was wonderful, but Leilani's meeting with Sharkara permanently pulled me in to keep listening. Their intimacy was so vulnerable and honest, but it was how it ended that really surprised and reminded me of things that really hit home for me.

What does Marami Hung and Leon Dollet bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Their voices and performance made SUCH a difference in the overall experience in and out of the bedroom. Marami's casual and intimately silky voice is 100% love. Her commitment to each individual character is truly impressive, even if she is the author. Leon's classy, velvet sound influenced my attitude towards characters in many situations that may have fallen short on paper.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Leilani and Sharkara for sure, but I also loved how well the ending came together. You would never think it to be an erotic novel if you listened to it first. Marami brings such clarity and closure to Leilani's character that I couldn't help but smile widely, wishing there was more.

You always go into erotic novels expecting the usual suspects. Though when an erotic novel genuinely surprises you, leaving you with many things you didn't expect from a story that initially appeared predictable, you can't help but acknowledge it.
