It's Les Norton in trouble (again) but with the usual amount of luck comes up smelling like roses

Les's look at South Australia but the ending was like Barrett had run out of time and had to think of an ending quickly.

A little disjointed. I liked the idea, and the story line of each character, but the way it was presented was confusing. And the postscript at the end was highly unnecessary. Overall, though, it was a nice story.

Not many. The characters were only partially drawn. With the exception of Catherine's overarching regret, I never did get any sense of the characters' motivations.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. I had never read any thing by Luanne Rice before so she was new to me. I can say it was well worth the listen. Laurel M. the narrator did a fantastic job, so well done to her.

LOVE the story - not so much the performance.

Would you consider the audio edition of Summer Light to be better than the print version?

Not at all. I read the book years ago and loved the story. I got the audiobook to listen to during a cross country flight. It's the first audiobook I've purchased that I could not finish.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Summer Light?

The "back story" of Martin growing up in Canada and how his father treated him gave a solid base to much of the rest of the story.

What three words best describe Laural Merlingtons voice?

Soft, light, flat

The book - yes. The audiobook - no.

I have no issues with Laural Merlington's voice. It simply isn't suited for this book. One of the central characters is a burly professional hockey player and her voice simply isn't strong enough to carry it off. She did fine with the female characters.

Apocalypse Now for a new conflict

It seems that Jim DeFelice and I are old friends. I have never met the man, but I have read almost every piece of fiction he has ever been a part of. Needles to say, he is on my list of "must buy" authors.

Leopards Kill does not disappoint!

The opening paragraph pretty much lays out the state in life many men of my vintage seem to have reached and somehow , just don't feel that good about it. DeFelice's main character, aptly named Jack Pilgrim, sets out on a pilgrimage to find out what has happened to his close friend and business partner who has gone missing with all of their business funds as well as a lot of CIA government money into the wilds of the Afghanistan / Pakistan border region.

Pilgrim's search evokes Captain Willard's (Charlie Sheen) search for Colonel Kurtz ( Brando)in Coppla's 1979 classic Apocalypse Now. Pilgrim is slowly stripped of his carefully self constructed reality and becomes forced to deal with another world of hopeless and vicious individuals as he searches for what has happened to the man who has saved his life more than once. A well written, thought provoking read....

Well Done

I have read Jim Deflice before, but as an author with Dale Brown. This is the first book I have read by him, and am enjoying it. The characters have a depth to them, and you can almost see the locations for the way he describes the places. He sometimes detours from the story line, to bring something out of the past, that at times can be a little hard to figure out why, but in giving it time, it will come to fruition.

I will get another book by this author, and enjoy it just as much.

Disappointing

DeFelice should stick to co-authoring. Ive read a lot of books DeFelice has written with other authors and they are much better than when he strikes out on his own. Maybe I jkust was not in a reading mood.

This is short recording. Yes, it is the entire story, but the book is not great. It is predictable & contrived. It is the story of 2 selfish people that are separated & planning to be divorced. I do not recommend it. I admit it is difficult for me to enjoy a novel when I do not like the protagonist.
