How do we love a country that devalues Black Women? I Am Breonna Taylor is a tribute to the

26 year old young black woman, Breonna Taylor who was killed in her home by the Louisville,

Kentucky police in March 2020. The injustice that no one will be charge with taking her life is

astounding! This episode is a tribute all black women that I love that are Breonna Taylor in my

life. I discuss with Sheridan who is about the same age as Breonna her feelings and what do we

do next! We explore what it means to be black and a woman in the yet to be United States of

America. The wounds run deep, the hurt is unimaginable, anger is real, and exhaustion has

become a permanent way of life for us as black women with the trauma of sexism, racism, and

microaggressions.

Have you ever wanted to do something and had to ask permission from your Mom or someone

else? This person held the proverbial key and access to your next moment of happiness and

the only way to get there was to have them say “yes” to what you wanted. The question

Sheridan often asked was Ma, Can I? This episode shares our lesson in giving permission to

your children, people, or love ones. The question matters but your responds has meaning that

will impact your relationship forever. We share how the questions and responses made us

aware that permission granting comes in many aspects conscious and subconscious for our

young people.

Daughter, I Love You explores the lesson of mother/daughter relationships from child to young

adult with my daughter Sheridan. Sheridan and I share our journey of how we navigated

through the terrain of the relationship that’s most pivot to the life of the young

girl…..mother/daughter relationship. This episode gives light into what it takes to enhance a

relationship with your daughter in stages. Our lens is the black mother/ black daughter

perspective because that’s who we are and that relationship has many complexities,

milestones, and challenges.
