A sweet conclusion to a good kids fantasy series

Not nearly as good as his abhorsen trilogy because the books are really a bit too short for good character development. I did like the hero.and waded thro the series for his sake, but each of his sidekicks were not truly fleshed out in later books. The defeat of the seven deadly sins also became a bit monotonous, basically following the same checklist, and only a few kingdoms were really fleshed out as different worlds.

A little flat in the end

I really enjoyed this series overall, but unfortunately this was my least favorite book of the lot. I read it because I've read all the other books in the series, but I was rather tempted to put this one down halfway through. While each of the previous books introduced new and interesting characteristics about the house, gave us new magical areas to explore, and new denizens to get to know, the last book seems to mostly rehash things the reader has already learned about the house.

I was very happy with the ending and how all the loose ends were resolved. However, I felt the "twist" was a little too heavily foreshadowed in the Superior Saturday which made it unsurprising. In a way, this book felt like a forced march to a somewhat unsurprising end.

If you haven't read the rest of the series, I hope this doesn't put you off. While the ending might have fell a little short for me personally, the series itself is very imaginative and well written and I would still highly recommend The Keys to the Kingdome as a whole.

Disappointing

For such an interesting imaginative story, the ending was rather lackluster. I've seen it done a thousand times, and often much better. Have to admitted, it felt like Nix lost interest in his own story.

Great ending to the series.

My daughter loved this series, we listened to 1-5 on CDs from the library. Then I found 6 on Overdrive through my library but there was no audio version available for 7. I wasn't happy to have to buy the CDs but used prices were pretty good. And we got to finish out the series.

My daughter is 7 years old and really liked the Harry Potter-ish aspects of the book and also the intricacies of the characters and plots. Some of it was a little old for her but she got most of it.

Good series

Read this series as a kid back in high school. Loved them then love them still now as an adult.

Childhood favourite

This whole series has been a favorite of mine since i picked up the first book randomly at a used book store. I believe i read witchlight first. I searched until i had read every book out of order and i pieced together the overall plot of the series.

I love each book individually. Some more than others.

This book i would have to say is one of my most re-read of the series because i am a sucker for tough, independent, armed and deadly female protagonists.

If you, like me, love a good paranormal fight against evil with a tough female at its core and a little bit of romance. But no long overwhelming sex scenes this book is a must read.

Reading age is ideal for teens!

What did you love best about The Chosen?

I love underdog to hero stories and I love romance. This book contains both. John Quinn and Rashel are two of the most unlikely people to fall in love but they do, and they fall hard!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love Rashel's wit and fire, her ability to adapt and change. She is a true hero, forged from loss, violence and pain but polished off by love and forgiveness.

Have you listened to any of Julia Whelans other performances before? How does this one compare?

This I believe is the first time I heard Julia Whelan but I fell in love with her style immediately. She really brought the characters to life and gave them depth. Wonderful performance 10 stars if I could!!!!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Love is never out of reach.

Any additional comments?

I learned that the last book of the Night World Series "Strange Fate" has been lost. LJ smith has written it but for some reason or another it has not been published. To my understanding this has been the case for close to 10 years. I am sad to say that at this point, you will be enjoying the Night World stories and characters without the ultimate closure a reader, a customer or a fan would expect.

There is a plethora of choices when seeking out a quality book about the Holocaust. Laura's Twin should be at the top of the list. Laura is a typical tween preparing for her Bat Mitzvah. Her Rabbi asks her to be part of a "twinning program," which involves the symbolic pairing of a Bat or Bar Mitzvah boy or girl and a victim of the Holocaust who was unable to have a ceremony. Initially Laura is hesitant. She is too busy with her life and Bat Mitzvah preparations. But then she is given the diary of a girl name Sara, and she is drawn to her story of life in the Warsaw ghetto. Soon events in her life have new significance in light of Sara's struggles. Through Sara's diary, readers learn about the event of the Warsaw Ghetto from a personal perspective. There is a great sense of pride in the resistance fighters. The final outcome of the book is surprising and satisfying. The author beautifully melds historical events with the contemporary issues Laura is facing. Many photographs are included, which helps to bring the story to life.

AWESOME

This book was very well written. It made you think of all the fights in middle school how true they really are. It was a true resemblance of those "catty" girls and how cruel they really are. I highly recommend this book to girls who have a good sense of humor and some idea of what is to come or have passed. To me this book reins true. A very great read!

Great book!

This is an amazing sequel to the first Annabelle unleashed book, boys are dogs. I've seen the movie (for dogs are boys) and the book is much better. It would have gotten four stars if it had more boy-training in it. That is my favorite part.

The book is really good

It talked about bullying and the situations girls face in school. My daughter (age 10) read the book with me and she really enjoyed it cause she is currently dealing with issues due to catty girls. She enjoyed the authors style and wants to read the other books. Very good ending theme too.

I felt like I was at war

How would I behave and feel if thrust into battle? Easy to declare that one is patriotic and in agreement with a cause, to get in line and sign up, but how about the day in and day out part of battle? The waiting, the social intercourse with fellow fighters, the gear, following without question a commander, could I do that? How does the average 19-23 year old feel in those situations? This book conjures up thoughts, feelings, emotions that put you on the front line. Well written and a good story, the killer combo.

A Reflection Upon Man's Emotions During Battle

This is not a book about a specific person, or about a specific battle. Our protagonist isn't even given a name, age or home, save during his musings back to when he quit seminary school (indicating probably about 18 years old, and from the Northeast), and bade farewell to his mother, who called him Henry. We meet "the youth", as he's called throughout, while he's waiting to be sent to battle for the first time. The youth must have been a Northern soldier, and the battle must have been in Virginia; other than that, this book is more generic with regard to events, and about emotions, changes in soldiers, and their reactions to events.

Halfway through this book: "The youth took note of a remarkable change in his comrade since those days of camp life upon the river bank. He seemed no more to be continually regarding the proportions of his personal prowess. He was not furious at small words that pricked his conceits. He was no more a loud young soldier. There was about him now a fine reliance...."

Toward the end of the battle: "...The lieutenant, also, was unscathed in his position at the rear. He had continued to curse, but it was not with the air of a man who was using his last box of oaths..."

At the end of the book: "A specter of reproach came to him. There loomed the dogging memory of the tattered soldier - he who, gored by bullets and faint for blood, had fretted concerning an imagined wound in another; he who had loaned his last of strength and intellect for the tall soldier; he who, blind with weariness and pain, had been deserted in the field..."

A powerful reflection upon the changing of a man during the course of a battle. It's slow reading, because it does warrant reflection.

An absolute, all-time classic - a haunting, harrowing account of war, by a writer who never served in the military, never heard a shot fired in anger. The simplicity and clarity of Crane's plot and writing style make this one of the most mesmerizing, haunting accounts of war imaginable. There is a reason this book is still read more than a century after it was written, a century and a half since the war was fought that is its subject. I devoured this in 2 sittings.

A Universal Classic, not just American

This is a classic I missed in my youth that I am glad I finally read.

Dont judge a book by its cover

3rd book i have listen to of tera and she has not disappoint me

loved it, one of those dont judge a book by its cover or title moments.

Next stop Olympus.

A cute little teenage story of a girl who starts school with a bunch of descendants of Greek Gods. Being the only one without powers, lots of people don't like her. Luckily she finds some friends, wins some victories and learns new things about herself. This is a fun story, recommended for girls around 12 and up. I like to read a little of everything so I enjoyed it, especially since it was only 3.95. I recommend listening to Bras & Broomsticks series by Sarah Mlynowski if you like this one. Narrator was great portraying a teenage girl.

Very Entertaining Audio

The audio of this book was brilliant. I really enjoyed the reader, Jessica Almasy. She brought the characters to life. The story was really good but I was glad that I listened instead of read it. I would have missed out on a really great audio.

I wasn't expected so much out of this when I first came across the book. It sat on my to be read list for quite a while before stumbling on the audio version. After sampling, I downloaded immediately and never once regretted the purchase.

The school was fun. Getting to know the different descendants and seeing how Phoebe learned to deal with her new life when going to a school meant for 'gifted' individuals. All around fun book.

Exciting, Who doesn't want to be a Demigod?

Would you consider the audio edition of Oh. My. Gods. to be better than the print version?

I love audio books. My job is mostly filing and data entry. So, I spend most of my day listening to books from audible. This book is told in first person and is like sitting across the table from the main character and getting a first hand account of her life.

What other book might you compare Oh. My. Gods. to and why?

I listened to Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini first. That book got me intrested in the whole Demigod's kick so I started looking for books with Demigods in them and Oh My Gods popped up. I think Tera Lynn Childs should get royalties from Starcrossed because it seemed apparent to me where Josephine Angelini got her idea.

Great reading material

Good, clean fantasy series

Daughter (age 12) loves the series and couldn't wait to begin the next book. Oracles of Fire is a fantasy series with some biblical themes and principles, but it is not an allegory. It is clean...no language, innocent romance.

I haven't read this yet! Simply because I ordered all 4 books in the series along with several books that completes other series that I have already read. I rated this with 5 stars because I got it so quickly. That was so cool. I expected it to take alot longer.

The children in question are John and Phillipa, New York twins who are 12 years old when they find they belong to an ancient and sacred order of genies, called djinn. The Day of the Djinn Warriors, the fourth installment in the series, is here performed in a resplendent British baritone by Ron Keith. It follows the djinn twins as they seek to reverse a curse placed on their father and to put back to sleep an army of terra cotta warriors from Chinese dynastic times. Fans of Harry Potter may want to take a listen.

Terracotta terror

The fourth novel in the Children of the Lamp series features the terracotta warriors, thousands of six foot tall clay statues buried with the Chinese Emperor of Qin, somewhere back in 210 BC. These statues were for protection as well as to ensure that the Emperor had a full army at his disposal in the afterlife. As the story goes, someone is reanimating these ancient warriors, and possessing them with evil spirits.

Meanwhile, on the good Djinn side, Djinn twins John and Phillipa Gaunt, their Uncle Nimrod and the crew head off to find Faustina Sachertorte (who is in the Djinn equivalent of suspended animation) in the hopes of reviving her to take the place of the twins' mother as the hard-hearted and extremely logical Blue Djinn of Babylon. This requires careful planning, because their father is under a Methusaleh binding that makes him age rapidly once the twins aren't at home, which of course they aren't.

Back on the other side, Faustina's brother Dybbuk is acting up, misusing his powers in exchange for fifteen minutes of fame as the next (and much improved) David Copperfield. Unfortunately his antics are noticed by his father, Iblis, the leader of the Ifrit (a.k.a. the really bad Djinn) and before he realizes it, Dybbuk is being used to set up a really big scam that could change the balance of good and evil.

Better than book three,Cobra King Of Kathmandu (Children Of The Lamp), this one takes the reader to exotic locations with exotic food, contains a lot of surprises, and features two very famous gentlemen from the past. The action-packed adventure comes to a dramatic pause at the end, which is clearly not the end of the story, but the way forward to the next book.

Good book

This book was a great portrayal of a real 11 year olds life and I felt it was a good concept on training boys as well as dogs
