The book left me wanting more information about the actual crime.
While I enjoyed this book and the author's description of life behind bars, I wish he would have written more about his actual crime. As a social worker, I am interested in what kind of factors contribute to someone committing murder. While he speaks of his growth and adaptation to jail, I don't think that can truly be achieved until he comes clean about the events that actually lead him there.
Some parts were ok but really didnât think it was all that good .
He spends a lot of time making generalizations and stereo types and while I agree that this is his perception and account of what life in prison is like, I still think that his labels and stereo typing took on a life of there own when whole chapters were dedicated to his rants on his Hispanic rival in the cell across from him talks way to loud and how his African American cell mate would be a good fit only after he learned his name was âRayâbecause are always cool guys and everyone has a ârAyâ in their life and know what he is talking about,

Having worked in a prison, I found this book to be very accurate. What I found interesting was the personal perspective from the author. Unless someone has been there, it is very difficult to understand the horrific transformation that individuals go through to adapt tp prison life. Mr. Darcleight has managed to maintain his humanity, find purpose, and thrive in a very hostile environment.

Amazingly written book. This book should be required reading for parents and for kids. Not only does it shed light on what goes on behind bars, but it is a powerful story on how drugs can lead us to do the unthinkable and rob us of a life of freedom
